I'm always looking at classic 911's and middles in good presentable condition seem to be climbing

Yes, that's $41K for a CARRERA not a regular '74 (even though there isn't much difference).

The blue 74 targa (solid #3) on BAT sold for $31.5k. I think hagerty is off by a half mile.

This car, no engine no gearbox, is already sold.

Yes, it has Carrera rear flares. Someone started to build a rep out of it. It's a 74S.

It was originally Copper Brown Metallic. The color change was done glass out and very completely, but the prep wasn't great. I seriously considered buying it and flipping it after finishing it since I have a spare 3.0l and 915 gearbox. But too many projects too little time...

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a 74-75 carrera roller. Like this but a real carrera as I don't want any traces of the flares being welded on. The price is hard to beat though. Sold?

Probably a stupid question...but, why is a 74 or 75 more desirable than a 76 or 77?

Is this just a California thing (emissions exemption on pre-76)?

Is it because the 76 and 77 are galvanized and more survived thus making the 74 and 75 harder to find?

Or, is there some other difference that makes them more desirable?

Cali emissions, 9 blade fan from the factory, no thermal reactors (and chrome trim, at least for me)

Also smaller bumperettes on the '74.

It was done at the window sill, like my car was.

Yes, sold. He had a guy in line after me who was ready to send a deposit prior to even driving up the coast to see it in person.

do you know where the weld was? I suppose i can put my 74 US Carrera up in the air and look. That may change things quite a bit for me as I can just get a non carrera donor car

The lip is different too. IIRC, the flat face of it is wider than SC or 3.2 Carrera

I know the wider RS flares were welded on as a flare but I think the 74-77 Carreras were an entire quarter or uniside welded on.

I've heard this a few times but I've also heard that they are identical to the SC many times and I dont have anything but Carreras here to look at unfortunately

There's some pictures around here somewhere. It's not a myth. I've had both side by side for comparison before. If you dig into 74 Carrera lore you'll find that only the early ones got the 73 RS type flare. Partway through production they had changed. I think that's where the idea that they are the same as SC came from.

Interesting. Ok so to be clear RS type flare is a huge difference from standard 74-77 carrera correct? Secondly "Part way through production they had changed" ok so changed to what? a 2 year only 74-75 carrera flare? a 4 year 74-77 carrera flare? or a 74-77 carrera + 78-83? SC flare?
