What's a good headliner cleaaner?

My '78 911 SC has a white vinyl headliner in nice condition,
except for some very stubborn stains around the
rear edges of the quarter windows.
Can anyone suggest a good cleaner?

Many Thanks.

Stubborn stains indeed!
What you are seeing is the factory glue coming through the headliner.

As I see it you have some choices:
Remove the glass and replace the headliner
or
Mask off the edges of the headliner & spray with a fabric spray paint (Duplicolor or Rustoleum make products). The paint really stinks, wait 'till warmer weather to work outdoors.
or
live with it.

no, it's a dated, stained OE 38 year old white headliner. the stubborn stains you describe are implied & part of the OE panache. if you scrub too hard it will turn to paste.

let it go.

headliner cleaner

WD-40 works well for dirt or greasy stains, not very well for glue or water stains. An old upholstery guy taught me that trick.

I used diluted purple power to clean the stains in my headliner up. Mine were mostly around the lights, from decades of finger grease. Sprayed on a cloth with some gentle scrubbing, I got about 75% off with no damage to the headliner. I didn't feel comfortable scrubbing harder than that, for fear of damaging the headliner which was otherwise in almost perfect condition, so I decided to leave well enough alone. I was happy with it.

Zymol makes a fabric cleaner that works with unsalted seltzer water; I've had decent success with this product. Also, try Leatherique's Prestine Clean, which is a pretty good vinyl cleaner...

Leave it. To control the over spray clouds in an interior is insane. I've done it, and I won't do it again. Putting a new liner in is a pain in the a$$. I would leave it. Think of it as hard-earned patina.

More owners need to "embrace patina" let your car tell it's story...
