Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2017

Well I'm looking to pick up another 911 if I can get one for a decent deal, I have a buyer at the sale and he will be there all week.

1970 911 Targa sold today for $52,800.00 with the 10% auction fee included

Description
*- This matching-numbers 911 Targa has a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. With approximately 10,000 miles on a complete rebuild, additions include Weber carburetors matched to a 5-speed manual transmission, new paint, custom interior, sound system and Fuchs wheels.

Coming up on the block and I'm really hoping I can rip this one because it's a Frankenporsche, fingers crossed

1977 911
Sold for 105k wow

This build was a professional 993 GT2 conversion build where cost was no object. A Getty 993 GT2 conversion kit with 1 ½" wider fenders was used. As the power-plant, a 3.6-liter engine was sourced from a 1992 Porsche 964 was chosen for this build. This engine came from a 42,000 mile 911 that had been totaled by a fallen tree. Since the build, a large-capacity fuel cell and countless other upgrades have been added to the car. Literally every nut and bolt has been replaced, rebuilt, upgraded or restored. Maintained in outstanding show-like condition (receipts provided) ), it has been lightly tracked at local tracks including Laguna Seca, Sears Point and Thunderhill. Maintenance records support that the Porsche has accumulated only 600 miles in the past five years. It's reliable and fast. Finally, the car was inspected by a qualified German repair specialist who performed a safety inspection, fluid change, complete tune-up, fresh oil service and brake flush.

Last one today

1978 retro build
60k holy smokes

*This backdate Porsche is a '78 non-sunroof coupe that has been transformed to re-create the world-famous 1973 2.7 RS. Powered by correct, rebuilt 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine (Serial #6290921) and shifted via its 5-speed manual gearbox. Finished in Viper Green over black interior, this features 1973 OEM early metal fenders, early window frames, pop-out quarter windows and fiberglass hood, ducktail and bumpers. It's equipped with 930 brake system with Rennsport Systems 2-piece front rotors, M&K sport muffler and Webb Machine stainless airbox with pop-off valve. It features Boge front struts with Bilstein inserts and Bilstein rear shocks. It rides on 7" front and 9.5" rear Fuchs wheels that have been media blasted, painted, clear-coated and wrapped in Toyo R888 tires. Interior features include ventless leather dash, lower dash accessory delete, '73 glove box door, 930 150mph speedometer, RS carpet and panels, RS-style seats with sliders, short shifter with fresh bushings/seals, MOMO steering wheel with Porsche horn button and Vosstek pedals. Exterior features include '73 mirrors, handles and hood straps.

The prices on all of these cars seem incredibly low. Has the bubble popped on our beloved cars?

No problem, my two bids were as follows

1977 993 look tribute $55,000
1978 SC backdate $35,000

I was definitely supprised that the Martini tribute sold for 100k

I detect some sarcasm above. With the exception of the Martini car which I didn't look at closely, the others appeared hastily assembled and ill finished. The other 911s here will go for even more.

The last few years the auction houses have been pushing some used cars across the block. There's been a huge drop in quality and the prices reflect that.

Keep in mind that these auctions are just a bunch of used car dealers who don't have to floor plan their inventory..

That 993 GT2 tribute really got my juices flowing. Price seem a little high, although it may be a top quality clean build I figure it would be $75kish. Am I on drugs?

There was also a 73 t that was updated to a 80s widebody that sold for 32-36k. It came out right before the backdated 78 that went for 60k.

I've been watching too and was quite surprised by the low prices of some good/real cars and the higher prices paid for many of the clones.. kinda of a reversal.

Additionally, many of the cars are improperly described.. the viper green 78/73 RS backdate was described at one point as a 70 911.

Its somewhat of a weird auction and the buyers not the auctioneers really know these cars!

I never known Barrett-Jackson to have a good collection of import cars. Maybe they do... but when I watch it on tv, ALL I see is muscle cars, muscle cars, and then some old American cars.
When the baby boomer generation passes, Barrett-Jackson will cease to exist... as I can't see future generations caring that much about muscle cars.

I wonder if future generation would care about cars period. With laws, regulations, self driving cars and the lack of attention while driving....cars (or classic cars for that matter) may not be at the top of the list of future generations..except purely for transportation. Time will tell...

I was watching a little both nights. I noticed this across all models. There are some really nice fully restored 50's and 60's cars selling for as low as $15,000 to $30,000. Then a custom hot rod truck sells for $175,000.
It's a different buyer there.

I wonder if the buyer woke up with a terrible hangover -- because he must have been drunk.

175k was ridiculous money for that truck.

You could literally have one built to order cheaper than that guy paid.

I feel like the bottom has dropped out of the custom market -- but maybe not in trucks?

The customs and resto-mods seemed pretty weak overall.

Some C2 vettes went for strong money.

It is odd looking at the audience and seeing these old fat guys in jeans and t-shirts -- who looked liked they just walked out of Denny's -- dropping 50-75k at Barrett Jackson.

Send a message via Yahoo to mobius911
that 1970 Targa sure looks like a backdated body, at least based on the flares and the rockers.
