Road Trip to Pick Up First Porsche
 

Hey all!

Well, I pulled the trigger on a GP White 87 Carrera Coupe. Flying to CT to take delivery from a fellow Pelican on 4/2, and will be road tripping it back to MN with my 77 year old father as co-pilot. Dad and I road tripped once before to pick up for him a 70 T-bird, when I was 10 or so, and it is still one of my greatest memories. I expect this trip will be the same or better!

Any advice on prep? The previous owner has made the whole purchase experience the best I've had for any vehicle, or any item for that matter. To that end, he's gone through the car again and reports back it's running really well, so I expect little to no probs. Yet, would like advice on fluids, parts, etc. you'd recommend I take a long.

Also, any routes you'd recommend and/or sites to see? My dad and I are going to take our time heading back, so even out of the way sites would be considered.

Search for old threads titled "road trip" or "emergency"

You will be told to get a spare DME relay.

If you have money, I'd drop $150 on 2 cam sensors.
Just get them installed sooner or later, after the trip.

Fuel pump.

New battery?
Bring multimeter, and verify yer getting 14V while running.

Fan belt. Porsche dealer brand only.
Get the pulley holder tool. (Does the car have toolkit?)
Learn how to replace it, perhaps. (I have a good thread on that)


Good to have the parts them if you break down,
That way, any shop can install.
