Hoping to find the perfect 911...

Hello everyone. Just joined the forum. I've been hanging around for the past few weeks, reading up on some topics and perusing the classifieds. A lot of good information in here.

So I guess I'll just jump right in. I am looking for the perfect 911. I know... But not perfect as in pristine, perfect for my situation. I'm trying to find an air-cooled Carrera or SC coupe that needs some love. I don't have much experience working on Porsches, but I've been around cars all my life and would enjoy fixing one up myself. I know they say to buy the best one you can afford, but I would almost prefer something that needs light restoration. I posted a thread in the WTB section but I wanted to get some feedback from the community.

For initial purchase, I'd like to be in the $20s. I have seen a few pretty good examples, even some that were in pretty good shape, but you have to move quickly. Buying something sight unseen and trying to schedule a PPI in time is a bit of a challenge. I'd love to be able to find something local, but I don't typically see any for sale in my area.

I know it's not a ton to go on but any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

-Bill

Hi Bill - welcome to the forum! Really glad to hear that you've been utilizing it to prep yourself for this project of yours; shows your passion. You're right around the mark in the $20s for a running project that needs some TLC and love. Although it may be a challenge, I highly recommend getting a PPI report or at least taking someone very knowledgeable with you to inspect the car. I cannot tell you how many times I've heard stories of people wishing that they spent that extra time getting a report done - it could, and likely will save you a ton of headaches and $$$ in the future. I've included a link to our site's DIY tech articles on the 911 broken down by category, which will become your best friend (along with the members in this very helpful community ). Keep us updated on the status of the purchase and overall build when the time comes. Best of luck and let us know if we can help.

Thank you very much, Dmitry. I will most definitely post any potential purchases I may come across. And I will absolutely have my nose buried in the forums once I get my hands on one.
