"Very rare tiptronic"

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/947077-1993-c2-coupe-low-miles.html

Just saw this ad and it made me wonder if there is actually data on how many manuals vs automatic/tiptronic cars Porsche produced in the air cool era.

I am not in any means knocking down the seller's statement because perhaps in his mind, tiptronic transmission is special. We all have certain personal likes and dislikes regardless what the market dictates..

After all, would it be fair to say that when these cars came out back in the 90's, the tiptronic transmission could have been more appealing because of it's rarity..

The Tiptronic was special and hard to get. You had to meet a certain criteria to even qualify for one.
You had to be 70 and a grandma.

At the risk of ***forum dating*** commentary from a few, select chowderheads here, this is awesome!

As has been said, lets not confuse rare with desirable. Its rare to see a Yugo in running condition these days but its still not a desirable car. Its rare to see a Pontiac Aztek on the road but its still not desirable. You get the point. Sometimes "rare" just means no one wanted one when it was new so they didn't make many, and it actually hurts the value.

Candidate for a 993 6 speed trans swap?

My, my, such harsh comments. Do you guys always make fun of the handicapped?
How about tiptronics for enthusiasts with wrecked left knees? (Ask me how I know!)
That said, it is a pretty terrible gearbox.....I spent over $3k on a special leg brace so I could drive standard again!

Wow - where did all the pent-up Tip hate come from? Run out of 912/914 owners to bash? As one who has developed a bum left foot over the years, I'm very happy to have a Tip. Like it or not, many Air-Cooled owners are baby boomers and the roads aren't getting any less congested. If I had to bet I'd say that as time passes "rare Tip" might actually be an effective selling point. And not just for ageing "posers"

Truf!
Thamlin's list of vehicles requiring thick skin left off targas and 914s. I had to round out the list of things and vehicles I love...

And just try to find a 1993 964 tip targa. Find me 1 for sale?
