Disagree...plenty of 996 and 997 GT3s come up at rennlist all the time with either low miles and/or zero overrevs in any range. See them all the time.

O.K., I should have added at a somewhat reasonable price. It's hard to find a nice 997.2 for under $120k, and many push $150k (and forget RS models - $$). Like most desirable things, they are available - at a price

I recall a few years ago that some GT3 owners complained of poor resale value!

Clean DME under 120k. Probably pick it up in low $100k. On RL also.

Despite the bulletproof mezger, 997 GT3 prices are very dependent on mileage. Probably due to rarity.

For a driver GT3, no over revs, not tracked...miles between 20-30k and not too particular to color, I think the price for a private sale would be around 95k to 100k for a .1 and 105-115k for a .2....of course different options can move that up or down.

Disclosure; I have a 997.1 GT3 and I love it. Even at these prices the car is a bargain for the performance and the engine pedigree. Despite the 991.2 GT3 manual coming out, the 996 and 997s are still holding their value. I think they will go up in value for the same reason people wanted a manual in the 991....they wanted to go back to the car/driver immersion, despite inevitably slower track times with a manual compared to a pdk.

Even with a 991 manual I think people will still look back at the 996 and 997 GT3s as being much more of a visceral and different driving experience.

On top of that there were way less 996 and 997 GT3s made....now Porsche is pumping out more per year.

I guess I am just a bit sour because a few years after the 997.2's came out, decent 997.1's dipped into a reasonable resale value range for a short time. If I recall correctly, around $75k +/- or so would buy a good example (and 996's maybe $50k +/-) for a few years. I also watched in horror as their prices rose when the 991's came out (PDK only)!

I still believe a 991 manual will help ease some demand on 996/997 GT3's (they do look fantastic), but I doubt that they provide the visceral experience that I want. I am one of the die hard manual guys, I could care less about a few seconds advantage on the track for an automatic. I also do not believe the new engine is as good as the old Mezger based mill. The transmission might be better if it gets the R 6 speed.

I am afraid I agree with you on most of the points you made. All GT3's are very special cars (kinda the Carrera RS of our era), and I know I will pay dearly for one - but it will be worth it...

Congratulations on being a 997 GT3 owner, I hope to join you in GT3 ownership in a few years...

No need to be too bummed, the 7.1 GT3's are not $100k cars, just as GT4's don't actually sell over MSRP (or at for that matter now). People get too caught up in the ask vs buy; in reality good driver quality 7.1 GT3's trade in the high(ish) $80k range.

As for the GT3 prices dropping down to the $70's, that lasted about 8 months. I was fortunate to pounce on one during that time but find the car gets next to no use.

I own a 6 GT3, a 7.1 GT3 and have driven/instructed on numerous 1 GT3's. Each respective new iteration has little in common with the last. The 6 GT3 was the last of the true drivers cars (no nannies, no nothing), while the 7.1 GT3 was still a beast, but not as visceral. I personally don't love the 1 GT3, but there is no argument that it is an exponentially more capable car than the prior two. If I had to take all things considered (price, usage, cache, etc), I would buy a 7.1 GT3, them 1 GT3 then 996. If you ask me to chose is a vacuum, the 996 wins hands down, no contest, followed by the 7.1.

As for the 1.2 GT3 manual, I look forward to driving it. I think it will lose with electric steering, no LWFW and epic nannies, but 8.5k rev 4.0!

Mehoff..... excellent read.... Presently there are 44 GT4s available on cars.com. Many still offered $10,000 over MSRP w/ mileage under 5000. I do think there is a window to buy a GT4 at the right price....

GT3.... I would take any, first choice 997.2.

I think the 991GT3 is much like the GT4. Dealers feel if they can control the supply they can control the price. 14/15s should be $120,000 +/- cars.

OP, did you buy the car?

I agree..... Price is at very top of market considering mileage and that it was tracked. The front bumper (I believe) was re-painted but it is outfitted perfectly. Ownership is excellent, this is Don's personal car and it is well cared for...... This car will provide no surprises to the next owner. So tempting........

One needs to read the ad carefully. It is NOT an actual Clubsport.

The Clubsport did not have thin glass but the 996 RS did. The Clubsport option was basically the full cage with a removable front half, Nomex Recaro seats, Schroth harnesses, a fire bottle and console deletes. Since the CS option was not available in the US I bought all of the factory parts and had them installed by great shops so the installation of the cage and welded plates are of factory quality. I used factory pre cut carpet, special visors etc. It was probably a 20k bill to get this done. Yes the front bumper was painted however all of the sheet metal is original paint. It has been a great car, never abused. I would use it on track days a few times a year for maybe 5 or 6 years of the time I have owned it. I just do not drive it anymore. I have all of the original paperwork, every magazine article of the time, books and tools. The miles may be a little on the high side however my maintenance standards are high and the condition of the car is impeccable. Happy to speak with anyone who is a serious buyer. Thanks.

Don
