Thinking of cutting loose of a project '78 911sc. Ideas on a price to ask?

As the title states, I have come to a point where I might be letting go of a project I picked up. I am just unsure of what a fair price to ask for it.

Info-
It's a 1978 911sc with 85k showing on the odo. Non sunroof. Power windows. Has a repaint in the original color of light green metallic. It's a good repaint- only issue is on the hood. It has a couple dents pdr could fix and a wet sand could fix the finish. Seems to be all original except for the radio- I have orignal steering wheel and cookie cutters.

It has 3 broken head studs, motor won't turn over by hand. Car sat for around 5 years or so (not sure how long it sat) PO said he parked it due to finding a broken stud. #6 plug was pretty fouled with carbon etc so hoping it just a stuck ring keeping it from turning. I haven't soaked the engine or applied much force to try and make it come unstuck. The gas tank is pretty crispy- PO left gas in the tank. CIS probably needs a good going thru as well.

Needs top end/head studs/fuel tank/CIS gone thru. If I was to cut ties and sell it,what is a fair price to ask for her as she sits? Any ideas?

I just bought a 1983 SC in similar condition. 206K on the ODO, complete car, ten foot paint job, starts and runs but VERY poorly...i.e. can't drive it more than 100 feet before it dies. Suspected ring issues / broken head studs.

I'm a hardballer and that needs to be taken into account. I paid $12,000.

I'm guessing the car is worth 16-18 the way it is.

Nice SC! And it's in Kansas.

A friend's father recently sold his 77 911S for $22k. I first drove that car about 20 years ago when I was in high school. First 911 experience. It was silver with black pinstripe velour interior with cookies and it was in similar condition as this car; nice exterior and interior. It had 95k mi and when he sold it last year it had not run in 10 years. A guy from LA bought it and sold it to another guy in Germany. I was surprised a non-runner brought that kind of money.

For this car, if there is no rust, I bet it will sell for $20k+ also. Shoot high and be patient. The color and interior will bring the money. Many folks prefer the mechanical rebuild projects anyways.

Omg, what a cool color. I have no idea what you should ask but I'm smitten with that green. I suspect someone else will be just as into it and pay more then same car in white or guards.

Early big port SC with no SR in a great color combo with low miles, no accident history and decent paint & interior to boot? A fantastic project for someone.

I would subtract the cost of a top end engine (and fuel system) rebuild, and probably come up with around $25k (budget $10k for the rebuild). I feel the color combo, no SR, early build SC with bright trim, etc., makes it a sought after SC. I think it would bring $35k - $40k with a top end engine and fuel system rebuild (and other sorting).

The early SC's were very quick as well, and I feel the most sought after of the SC series due to their performance, color availablility, etc. Old C & D road tests align their performance more with later 3.2 than the small port '80 - '83 SC models which were slower...

Exactly what I was thinking. $10k for top end and complete CIS rebuild. Or at a minimum, tank cleaning, fuel pump, fuel distributor rebuild, WUR rebuild, injectors, and filters. All can be done fairly easily.

Car should bring north of $20k easily as is.

We are out there. I am removing myself from this thread because I am smitten with the color. I'm crazy about the mid 70s metallics. I almost bought a guards red 74 with a TypeIV in it because it was originally Gemini Blue Metallic. I've got a kid coming in 6 weeks. I am not car shopping. I am not car shopping. Buy my Boxster. I am not car shopping.

Congratulations! That kid would love this green car though.

Thanks for all the comments. I am a fan of the color too, so it's going to be hard to let her go. But, I need to decide what do do with her- she deserves to be back on the road either by me or someone else.

Good for you to have the courage to let it go - and know that it's going to take time and money to get her back. I wish I had the same courage with mine when I started.

I'm sure you'll have no problem selling. Someone out there (ie Matt) has been waiting for this car to come along...

Bad-ass color, to be sure! Wish I was in the market - easy pick up being right next door in CO.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Wow if I was in the market. That looks like the foundation for a great hotrod!
