People ask me for pricing advice, but this one has me stumped
A friend retiring from the Porsche repair business is cleaning out his shelves and among the other rarities, he had a 959 speedometer. It's in like new condition. And it's in MPH...
I've asked around and people have suggested values from $350 to $12000. I just gave up and put it on eBay. He also sent me a 935 boost gauge, which I'll be putting up for sale. So far, *nobody* has suggested a value for that puppy.

The boost gages come up for sale fairly often, GLWS.

Did you ask Tony at Callas Rennsport? He services more of those cars than anyone I know. He's rebuilt the engines on 2-3 in the last 12 months alone. Canepa gets a lot of public attention for the 959s, but Tony is the one who gets all the work. He had one shipped over from Japan last year because the client wanted him to do the job.

What about Canepa's shop? Didn't they work on importing the 959 into the states? Last time I visited there were several 959's around the place.

I worked at AmeriSpec in the late 1980s in highschool when we did two of Ralph Laurens 959s as well as four others. We were the first the imported them (Legally) into the States - and got the DOT Cert.
We replaced the gauge face on the stock 959 speedo and re-calibrated it. Make sure that it's an actual MPH Speedo and not one that we converted. |

For anyone that needs one (or wants one) your opening price seems pretty fair. Where are you going to find another?
Watch it shows up in a 959 somewhere and someone claims they have only 286 miles on their car... |

Call Freisinger in Germany and tell him you are looking to buy one. Take whatever price he tells you and the real market price is about half that...

Apparently, you can still get a new one from Porsche for $2600 so the price seems reasonable if you can find someone who actually needs one.

Price
The first thing that I would do is to start the bid at $ 9.59 or something cute like that with a high, maybe $1700.00 reserve. People really do like to bid on things. The day before the bidding is to end, then reduce the $1500.00 price. When that happens, all watchers and bidders will receive a notice via email. It's like free advertising. If you have 2 or 3 people bidding, but the bids are lower than your reserve, then either lower the reserve or sit on it for a bit. GLWS

May do that on the boost gauge.

Bill - you might want to try Damon at Series900. He's built a 959 and may be in the market for a speedo. https://series900.wordpress.com/

Interesting that it's 959.641.507.00 and the one I'm selling is 959.641.517.00 I see there are new ones shown as available for $2600. So maybe the $2840 ask on the one in Germany is a bit high.
