'87 Carrera G50 value - special circumstance

Question to everyone out there.

I am thinking of selling my 87 G50 carrera (kid + another on the way...just not too much use and honestly I like my 987.2 BS better - also for sale, but that may change). I purchased it with 56k miles ~10 years ago. Currently has 77k miles.

My issue. It was in an accident about 6 years ago. Essentially I t-boned a guy who turned left in front of me on a canyon road

Actual impact speed was pretty low, maybe 10 mph. Damage was limited to the bumper (PS), light and PS front fender wing. Kevin at Automotive Innovations (AIR) did the repair and the car has been great since. They did pull the frame to ensure everything straight but all body panels are still original. Kevin was actually surprised as the fender straightened when they pulled the car.

Some pictures are below (note those are not the wheels it has but at the time, I put those on to keep my Fuchs in case insurance totaled the car).

Soooo, long story short. What is this worth now? It is a great, low mileage, mechanically sound driver, but I have no idea what the accident did to its value. Thanks for the input.

I know people will disagree but if the work was done right, is fully documented and you have proof it has held up for 6 plus years I don't see much of a hit value wise. With those factors above I'd take that over something that has had mystery work done.

Agree. My 86 had a fender replaced and unless I point it out people generally can't tell. It doesn't concern me at all about selling in the future.

if it isn't a slavage title you are good to go , these cars are approaching 40 years now, you will get some history on them. There will always be the "super anal" I only want it if you wrapped it in cotton wool types but I would say just price it along with any other beautiful car of your year and options.

I somewhat disagree, if it was an extremely rare or otherwise "important" 911 (Steve McQueen owned it, 964 RSA), a minor repair would make little to no difference in resale value.

A late model G50 911 is at the top of the G series heap, but nothing that is extremely rare or important. If the repair was excellent it should not have a large impact on pricing if all other aspects of the vehicle are in order.

I suspect a slight hit in resale value vs a similar condition 911 "today," but as the years pass, I suspect the value difference will evaporate to near parity among all similar vehicles (look at the somewhat common 356's resale value).

Red also seems to be a bit of a "negative" color at the moment, but in 5 years who knows...

When I was selling my car every person who was interested asked the same question "Is it original paint" I answered honestly as far as I know there has never been any collision repair but the hood was painted sometime in the past. The paint matches perfectly. The only reason I know that it was painted is because it was pointed out to me during the PPI when I bought it. You would be shocked how many people would not even come look at the car because of that. How many 30 year old cars in as beautiful condition as yours has not had some paint work done at one time or another. But I say it will affect the value maybe even by ten percent unless the right buyer comes along.

When is the last time somebody told you a car had been in an accident, explained the damage and then showed photos? Good on you!

BTW; Guards Red is now a PTS color. There won't be as many going forward.

I've noticed a trend over on RL. The Millennials are going for Guards Red. There's a bunch of 30 somethings over there showing of their newly acquire GR Carreras. There's even a guy over there right now looking for one. Not my cup of tea, but then I like the colors that I grew up with, not the Miami Vice era colors.

Personally I'm quite fond of GP White.

Thanks for all the replies.
I honestly think it would have some impact and would expect it to, just not sure how much. I also realize the market size shrinks as I think most people won't even look at it.

Air-cooled values just seem crazy, especially 993's. I like the cars, but at some point come on. I saw a consignment 993 with 15k miles (very nice like new car) listed at ~$115k at a dealer. Next to it was a new GT3 on sale for l$130k-ish. As someone that drives their cars and has owned a newer water cooled Porsche, I know which one I'd choose if I had that money. Then again I'd personally just get a 914-6.

As for red, I do think it'll come into its prime. I didn't buy it for that, but it (and maybe black) is the 80's poster boy carrera color...the poster most older millennials would have had in their bedrooms. I did. Nostalgia sells, just look at any vintage car trend.

G50 Coupe. How long do you think that'll last on the market at a reasonable price?
You'll do fine.

Hey I think you're referring to me. First post on Pelican, coming over from the 997 RL forum. I wish I was still a 30 something. Got a deal worked out on a very well kept 87 Guards Red coupe from a meticulous owner. Pending PPI. Look forward to making an intro and learning lots from these forums, even if you guys are a bunch of old farts.

PS You were kinda half-right. I do live in Miami and my other 911 is Carrara White.

I agree with this. I bought my '89 a few years ago and had this same internal debate. It was a 2 owner car (second owner since '94), fully documented, unique color (Diamond Blue Metallic), etc. All around, exactly what I had been searching for. BUT, it had paint work. The PO lived in western MN and on a backwoods cruise, he was hit by a deer. Yes that's correct... he didn't hit the deer, the deer hit him. Ran right out of the woods in to the front left fender. Fender and hood were repaired. He had photos of the damage, receipts for repair work, etc. Paint work was flawless (by my eye and others who have seen it) and had held up for 12 years. His honesty and presentation of the facts said a lot about him as a seller. So, I came to the conclusion that it did not effect value of the car and I bought it. If I ever sell the car, the market may disagree with me, but I expect someone will be able to draw the same conclusions I did.
