I had a left-side A/C Blower motor, located within the A/C Evaporator, that began to squeal terribly. I had it replaced...only to be told the right-side A/C Blower Motor also needed replacement. But, when then they tried to install it, I was told it ran constantly due to a faulty Blower Motor Module (aka: they also called it a resister, a relay and a Blower Coordinator - my wife didn't want that Part back in the car)! They removed the NEW Right-Side URO Replacement Blower Motor and returned it to me.
The garage mechanic/owners said they can't find the the ORIGIONAL LEFT-Side A/C Blower Motor less than two months after the work was completed, evev though they instructions to keep ALL removed parts for return to ME! Does anyone know what the value is for this part that fits a 1990 PORSCHE CARRERA 2 with 90,000 miles on it? I think they may owe me a few dollars because it cost over $800 for a NEW OEM Blower Motor today! Need your opinion. Last edited by David Schmidt; 05-30-2017 at 03:06 PM.. Reason: Misspelling. I've read in the past that bearing lubrication or bearing replacement may be all that is needed in a part built to the quality standard that Porsche built this one due to the severe use it receives during it's lifetime. Why are you seeing this as a throw-away part instead of a maintenance issue for a high quality car?

Lists at $900+, costs a shop around $180, add a few bucks mark-up + labor time.

John Walker: Then it sounds reasonable to ask this parts plunderer do the right thing and give me, say $125, for the Part he was supposed to have saved and given back to me per an Agreement I initially made with him. He also has failed to hand back an OIL THERMOSTAT he replaced which cost me $550...and he retained MY part! I don' t know if there is a market for these parts somewhere, but I'm beginning to think there is!!!
Does anyone know about a market for USED ORIGINAL OEM PORSCHE PARTS? It seems my mechanic may be harvesting my original parts and using after-market replacements...but this is speculation without proof! Last edited by David Schmidt; 05-30-2017 at 05:13 PM.. in MI legally they must return all parts must be returned to the owner except for those that are too large or are core
-can the bearing be replaced, wonder if his is hocking your parts as rebuilds

Dave - when the oil thermostat fails, it has zero value. It is filled with some kind of wax which expands and contracts with heat, and cannot be rebuilt or repaired when it fails. Of course, if you get the old part back, you can test it - you put it in the freezer for a while, and then toss it into a pan of boiling water. If the tiny, sort of wide head nail part emerges in the water, then it is good and you were taken. But offs are the shop knows how to test these and it is bad.
I once tried to refurbish the Bosch motor which on my car is back on the engine for the heater. It is not made to be taken apart, though you can do it. The bearings are not made to be replaced, though I was able to do some disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly with some grease here and suitable oil there. This worked for maybe a month. I don't think you can purchase bearings for these - google Bosch 12 volt motors and replacement bearings and Porsche and see if you get anything. In the 70s and 80s Porsche seemed to use rather low end - despite being Bosch - electric motors. Though the virtue of low end was not super expensive - back then - to replace. There is no market worth considering for these failed parts. I'm not trying to excuse what this shop did by not giving you back the junk (well, presumably junk) they replaced. But this sounds like the classic quiz question for first year Contracts in law school - there was a breach of contract, but if there was no value one could attach, what is the remedy. Michigan resolved this, it appears, by assigning a sort of penalty value of some kind. The working insert is $130 from Pelican. The whole external thermostat assembly is a bit over $500. A reasonable question is why not replace just the insert. Though shop economics sometimes says you are ahead if they just replace an assembly, saving the labor of disassembling and reassembling along the way. |

When a shop in Atlanta replaced all four calipers on my sister's Carrera a number of years ago, I was dumbfounded they didn't give her the old ones. Could have been rebuilt, I'm sure. Thieves...

Dave,
Pelican offers the blower motors for the 964/993 in this LINK Since the time required to remove and replace parts in the 964/993 evaporator box is rather lengthy, say 11-16 hours give or take, it would be wise to replace both LH and RH side blower motors while you are at it.
