Good luck with this. Hope it stays below your budget.

Do ask for a warranty, if there's any.

Thanks! I'll be sure to bring it up.

There are exceptions but generally Lemon Laws are for new cars only and will only cover a used car if there is a written warranty provided with the sales documents.

Thank for the advice. I checked into Lemon Laws and I consulted with an attorney. Unfortunately, I have no legal recourse. I bought the car As Is.

Is the $20K Jake Raby rebuild any different ?

Took less than a minute to find the answer to a question you asked 3 times. Google. Figure it out.
Warranty

Jake just rubs me the wrong way and I have had zero interaction with him. I hate made up internet forum heroes.

I remember his comments on the BAT car that had one of his engines that failed and man can that guy talk his way out of anything. He knows talking to a person who doesn't have technical experience can easily be won over by using highly specialized technical terms. Somehow I doubt a different dedicated Porsche builder would be as impressed.

He has built this idea that he is the best of the best but is there any real proof besides posts on the internet? Winning race car history? Proof of high mile rebuilds from his shop? Back to back dyno of his vs a $5k less rebuild ?This is a person who has all the time in the world to bombard the internet but supposedly you have to wait 6months for him to bless you with his ability to take your money.

Then there is the well known thread where right or wrong how he handled a situation wit a not happy customer. To sum it up he posted pics of himself laughing at the customer.

In the 6months you wait you could call a lot of the premier Porsche mechanics who work on cars not their internet image and have your engine redone without all the sales hype.

You probably won't go wrong with on of his rebuilds but you could alos save the wait and high cost and be just as happy. I agree with checking your state laws as you might be more covered then you think.

Good luck and just my 2 cents.

I don't for the life of me understand Jake's cult status. He used to be such an arrogant dick on 914 World. He took this position like he was the best type IV builder in the world and everyone else was dogshyte. He's a great engine builder but he's not the only one. While I above said you can't go wrong with one of his engines if it were my car I would probably get an SSF rebuilt engine instead. I don't see the added value there on a stock build. I would only consider him for something like a 3.8 conversion.

Some people are just arrogant. Some people are who they are and have never been put in their place.

I didn't think that that BaT auction where Raby was going on and on was that bad. I thought a lot of people gave him a hard time and he didn't come across like a complete a-hole. I thought he was on the level and gave some sound advice.

Really how many people have committed themselves as fully as he has to that engine design? I don't see a lot of people. I don't see a lot of people really trying to fix that design and improve it. I see a lot of people blowing them up and looking for a cheap fix by buying a suspect used engine somewhere.

I don't know him like you guys and my limited experience with him shows me that he's good at putting himself out there and self-promotion - and that's not a bad thing. At the end of day he does have specialized knowledge and he admits he's learned a lot over the years.

If he rubs you the wrong way I know a lot of people that have done the same to me but when I've gotten to know them in person they are actually OK. I've definitely encountered a lot worse...
