Yeah, I actually worked on a 917 once - did an oil change. It's this car, and around 20 years ago it changed hands for around $2 million. I thought that was ridiculous money for an old race car with a rebuilt engine and a new paint job (yes we repainted it as well). Times have changed.

If you think this is expensive, wait 20 years more and see where that 14 million dollar car is priced. I can assure you, it will be way way higher. Imagine a world with electric and automated cars. Go to the racetrack and drive a piece of history. It's will be valued at way way more, guaranteed.

This looks like a really fine car, but holy cow 75 grand for a 928?

^^^ On BAT to boot!
And Fellowwinelover, I'm not knocking the price. It's just a stunning amount of disposable money. And I'd happily blow it on that car if I had it. But I'm a few million short. Sent from my iPhone while Driving

Worse yet, it was the base 1.8 model with safety bumpers. Insanity.
Rdwinelover, yeah, I've heard real estate only goes up too. ![]() |

But at the top of that link someone paid $1,017,000.00 for a basic restored 1951 356 1,500cc coupe. That makes the 914 look like a deal. I guess it's the million and multi-million dollar cars that really get me thinking. I start to wonder if it's old money or stock option money being thrown around. I wonder how many people at that level are literally showing up with a line of credit acting like something they aren't. I just find myself curious about the type of person spending that amount on a car. Mainly because I've crossed paths with too many people over the years that acted like they were wealthy and smarter than everyone else. But as soon as things slowed down they were the first people to loose everything. Dotcom bomb and housing bubble had the same types of people faking it. But we're now in the days where Billionaires are becoming the norm. You can make seven figures a year and in Monterey during the classics you'll feel poor.

prices
last year I had what i call a UNICORN, a car that should not exist other than a story someone tells at the bar. This car was an original from day one and sat in storage since the early 80s. Had a lot of interest, one in particular was a representative that they had a hedge type fund that bought Porsches. The warehouse pictures he showed me were full of pristine early original Porsches stacked. This was one of 4 warehouse they said they had and could hold 100s of cars.. The Porsches return over the last 10 years exceeds the stocks market.

Butt no surf boards for Phatt - he'll put his vintage, party kit cooler up there (contents of which are: nitrile gloves, rope, duct tape, zip ties, chloroform, rags, a stun-gun, and a large bottle of Flunitrazepam)!

I would have a hard time buying that car over an impact bumper 3.0 or 3.2 for substantially less.
