1975 911s (with a color change) value
I came across a 75 911s locally that at 53.5K original miles, studs still in good shape, no leaks, new SSIs new bilsteins, no rust at all, no accidents same owner 28 years except..the owner paid to have the color changed from chocolate brown to a non OEM porsche color: pearl white. Awaiting leakdown numbers from the mechanic who has maintained it for the past 15 years or so
Does this affect value and if so ballpark what would that value be? Thanks. -Ryan https://monterey.craigslist.org/cto/d/1975-porsche-911s/6269438828.html |

I peg the value about $6K under what it's posted for. What's with the red fan? Motor work? Who did it?
There are very few '75s left in this condition. I believe it would be a $26K car on BaT (color change doesn't mean that much because it looks nice to me), but I would want to see who got into the engine. With that said, and with all those receipts, it may be a car that's really worth looking into if you are into midyears. BTW, it's got a later model dash, door panels, seats, etc but that would be fine with me. The original interiors did not hold up. But it's a red flag, because at the 'supposed' original 53K miles, they would have held up. I doubt this car originally has 53K miles. The interior is completely non-original. I think he will get close to the ask. As a 75 it has no emissions and is a blank slate for someone. And the poop colored lovers will want this car for restoration to stock. If you can get it under $30k, and things like the engine build check out it's a buy.

Per the buyer the panels are not original because he did a color change. They looks like SC/Carrera door panels correct?

The door panels are 77+. The interior locking mechanism is in question. 75s have the lock/unlock knob at the top of the door panel. 77-89 had the circular roller mechanism + the knob that collapsed/disappeared into the panel. This was an anti-theft deterrent. On the pics, I see the roller mechanism but I don't see the knob nor the hole for it.

Mid years are really going up in value. i'm always watching the market..not a huge deal if color change..that effect long hood cars more

The mechanic said "It doesn't need a leak down or compression test". Ya sure pal.

Case appears cracked in pic where the drop of oil is dangling.
Judging by the exuberant use of RTV it was obviously not serviced by someone who knows these cars. Might price it as a roller...

Here is a little tip. When you see fresh black undercoat.........think it out. Undercoat from an older car will be a grayish light brown only. NOT fresh black in color.
I don't see the picture of the case any longer.......wha' happened to it? hmmm.......

Problem is, years ago so very few people took a 2.7 seriously enough to rebuild them correctly (which is sad, because the steps involved in doing so aren't too terrifically hard), people like MM got their greasy hands on them ALL THE TIME as I saw many, many in SoCal and they were grenades. |

A lot of red flags as previously mentioned but summarized here:
Mechanic doesn't want to do leak down or compression Wrong interior (and major components DASH?! Fresh undercoat Potential motormeister motor RTV seal on the split case Probably 153k miles as odomoter doesn't show triple digits on a 75 On the plus side SSI Bilsteins Good paint? Clean interior Fuchs (poor paint job) Straight body, complete car, emissions exempt

Either the seller has details on the engine rebuild or they don't. Definitely not a car for skipping the PPI on. If seller balks at the PPI suggestion walk as it likely means he knows the PPI will be bad results for his sale.

price reduced so lots have probably passed. the color change alone would put it in mid 20's for me.

Gotta love the original brown (maybe I am biased).

On top of all the red flags mentioned, why doesn't the owner put a little more time in the ad if it's so nice? Hard to believe that car has 53.5k original miles unless it's fully documented.
