Fair Price for 79 SC Targa
I'm finally offering up my 1979 Targa and want to be sure I'm pricing it correctly. I don't want to price it to sit -- nor leave money on the table:
1979 SC White (Ivory) Repainted; the ONLY place where you can see mocha (original color) is behind door panels Cork Interior Additions/Upgrades - Fiberglass duck tail - Carrera valence - New Door Panels - MB Quart speakers - TrafficPro Stereo - Targa Band repainted - Power seats covered in Cork - New Lower Dash - Moch-1 underdash cover/speaker 7 + 8s refinished by Al Reed about 10 years ago - B&B Exhaust comes with it (not installed) - H4s - Nardi Steering Wheel with aluminum hub adapter - Shifter Covered in Cork Leather - Brake/Heater covered in Cork Leather - Seat Belt buckle holder covered in cork learther - Speedo rebuilt 200 miles ago The shiny pics were before I put the duck tail on the car and before I shipped it to Maryland. Car has never seen snow and only a few rainy days. I have most of the service records from its birth The dusty one is of the duck tail I'm guessing the value to be around the high 20s; is that fair? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well, you leave out mileage and the speedometer is blocked in the picture. You never mention any mechanicals, maintenance, tune ups, or head studs etc. The are no engine pix or underside pix. This lack of info leaves a lot to the imagination, none of it good.
Give us more info and we'll give you price guidance. There's a guy on MD right now looking at an 88 Targa in STL. PM him and I'd be willing to bet he'd be interested if the missing info is all good news. Having said that, high $20's for a smartly kept 78 is a good price for the buyer. Yours can't be considered that, yet.

Most service records is great. What's the mileage? Engine health? If you start the ask at $30k you should get some interest for sure. I would wait till the spring to sell.

(rolling my eyes at myself) - sorry for the lack of important info....D'Oh
134k on the clock I believe it has Carrera tensioners, but not 100% sure; this car was BABIED all of its life. It's a CA car that spent time in Seattle, and i guess a couple/few years here in MD (I moved it here). Thanks guys, it's just a crime to have it sit here in my garage...

Getting better, still need more.
What has been done to the engine? Rebuilt ever? Head studs? Modified? Exhaust? Transmission? Pics of the engine, underside, interior? Any DE's, AX's? How's it drive? How's the Targa top? Does it leak? Sorry Jeff, but if you want to sell, you're gonna have to get all this info and more together.

Looks nice. You need to pull the valve covers and ensure no broken studs. If that's good, start high 20's......Could get more if you could prove a recent top end job, but for now, we assume no engine work done?

Agree with others, but are those staples above the ac vent? If yes, that's sloppy and makes you wonder.

Wow! It looks like Victory picked this '79 SC (VIN# 119211552) as well -

The OP said nothing about 'extensive' service records, nor engine rebuild or head stud documentation. Now Victory is reselling it for a $10k bump with those records, and claiming a engine rebuild with new clutch? Sounds fishy.

That was a pretty decent buy that someone missed. Victory didn't. There was money left on the table if you ask me and they'll be trying to make the most of it.
Pretty typical dealer type pricing. Add 10, take 6 or 7, call it a day. Dealers do what dealers do. Caveat emptor.

^this. He priced it for a quick sale and there was enough meat on the bone for a dealer to grab it.
