I like a longhood just like everyone else. Hell, I'd even drive a 912 if I could find one that was decent that didn't cost a mint. That's right, Rawknee (smooch), I would drive one. With my foot to the floor, all the time. 912s are a hoot to drive, I'm telling you.

But taking a 3.2, or whatever, and trying to do some sort of restomod schit to it seems like a waste of good money. Maybe a midyear, without all the fender flare? THat's a backdate that's worthwhile, IMO.

Forward dating is definitely dead.

The exception is for the 996 - there are kits that exist to hide the fried-egg headlamps.

But for aircooled cars, you are correct.
