2011-12 997 GTS vs 2015-16 991.1 GTS
In 2011 I leased a C4 GTS. Awesome car, hated to turn it in. Now I'm thinking about buying another one (MT C2 GTS coupe). On one hand I prefer the 997 GTS, last and best of a generation, but I also think that the 2016 991 GTS represents the last and best of the normally aspirated 911's (setting aside the GT3).
Thoughts on current prices versus future value and desirability?

I wouldn't consider them collectable models. Great cars though. The 997's have bottomed out somewhat. The manual transmissions are quite rare. The 991.1 GTS still have a way to go. I feel like resale has been pretty strong for newer 911 Porsches across the board. This will change on the next economic downturn.

997
Unless you need the extra room, my vote is for a 997.2 (MT, PDK who cares)
They have a few things going for them, mainly the 9A1 engine, but also some other updates that make them desirable. I think most people like the 6 speed manual versus the 7 speed manual. They were also fairly low production models (economic mess of the times) which could bode well for resale stability. If I can’t swing for a 997.2 (or 997.1) GT3, I will look for a 997.2 GTS - the next best thing. |
