Will our part prices go up on March 23rd?

I guess others have had the same email I received today from a Porsche Part supplier.

It was stating some of their part prices will rise after March the 23rd, due to the new 25% duty on parts from the EU, China and Taiwan.

Is this going to make parts cars more valuable?

Drive up the value of our cars or cut it as they are of less desirable as they are more to restore?

As I'm part way through my build, and will be looking for a bunch of OEM seals etc, am I going to get fleeced when I'm ready to buy them?

Is this just political scaremongering?

I hope not. Most of my suppliers are in the US so I pay the USD exchange rate plus increased shipping, brokerage, etc. If it happens I will have to find a Canadian supploer or order from Germany or the UK.

if I heard correctly the 25% tariff is for RAW steel and 15% for RAW aluminum coming in. it is unclear how this would affects finished goods having these components.

I've searched a bunch of places. Your Porsche parts supplier is a scammer. Trying to make money any way he can. You've got to be kidding me. What's next?

It's not political scaremongering - it's a outright 'scammongering' to take advantage of the times.

I wrote a in depth response to this and deleted it because I am tired of dealing with or responding to people who buy into easily refuted lies, seems like there is no help for these kind of people.
But yes, pretty low, fearmongering to sell.

It's a shame, as I've bought a bunch of panels for my 912 from them in the past, and they have been good quality.

It's unfortunate when acts like this detract from a supplier who otherwise has a good service.

So it’s Restoration Design? Or is it Stod...?Just out them. People need to be warned that a business is raising prices on a lie. Raise your prices whenever you want but don’t claim it is beyond your control like that.

Just had another thought. If it is Resto Design maybe it’s honest. Maybe they are buying sheet steel to stamp that is under the duties. They may just be in a ****ty place. So again, say who it is. Context matters.

Yes, what ficke said.
Wasn’t sure if it was good or acceptable form to mention them here.

The way the email is written, it sounds like it will cover all parts, but I didn’t think that’s what the tarif included. If it was ALL parts, that could be a serious kick to our hobby and some people’s livelihoods.

They are implying that US importers might have to pay a 25% duty. This is false as its not a raw metal product. In addition Canada is not one of the countries that the US is going after for dumping (this week). I think it is just crappy marketing. I'm still annoyed at them charging me for panels in USD.

The tariff statement was vague and later a suggestion that Canada and Mexico would be exempted leaked out. Who knows what will happen? It's just a whim and it seems to change daily.

But R-D's products may be seen as 100% imported steel - because they are - and may be hit with a tariff. I think R-D is just being cautious.

Usually I agree with you on pretty much everything. I think they are being uneasy scammers.

They could have worded it much differently and saved face - and this wouldn't have left people with such a bad taste in their mouths.

Because in all reality - they are lying.
