356
LOM I told you that you could have my 65 Outlaw with fresh trans rebuild and Skirmants built 1720 cc 912 engine for 47K. Certainly not a perfect car but I get to drive it to the grocery store and park it without worries. And it now has Durant mirrors. I threw the weird mirrors in the pictures away. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1524841302.jpg

Pretty sure his Pops is looking for something a little more original, although I like your build.
And to MM and his engine rebuild theory on the blue BAT 356? I completely agree. Rebuild the motor before firing. Budget accordingly. |
The outlaw looks nice, I would work on the stance myself, but if the car was for me...I might be in your driveway now with my check...especially if it was grey or black.
NYNick-erbocker - you are right - he wants more original "mature guy" stuff. LOL |
ddm, I can easily appreciate how much fun your red 356 is. and minimal Porsche Paranoia when their purpose is that simple. you’ve also pointed out one of the few justifications for selling one;
- “I have another.” - “I’m getting another.” |
Drauz Yes I bought this one to fix multiple little things that were wrong then sell eventually. I have bumpers, original deck lid and 4.5 x15 wheels also so future owner can return to stock some day.

I’m confused.
I always thought it was “he who dies with the most toys wins”. Are you telling me that as one gets older they are supposed to sell their toys? Seems foolish. |
'He who dies with the most toys' is a fun idea, but to get a little philosophical, I have found that unwanted or unneeded stuff becomes a burden in life.
It seems you start out life gathering stuff, tools, books, shelter, stuff. Also you acquire debt . And as a young man you want to prove to every body how smart you are, skilled, just all around great guy, you feel a need to prove your self. But then some where in the 40's I would guess all this starts to change and you stop trying to show how smart you are, start getting rid of debt and also getting rid of stuff that clutters up life. I like the 356 because it is so user friendly and just plain fun. Defiantly not clutter. |
The richest man dies surrounded by friends and family who love him. I love my toys but I will sell them all or give them away to loved ones long before I leave this place. Can't take that stuff with me...
|
Toys turn into clutter. Clutter turns into a mess. Ever see those 'collectors' on American Pickers? Hoarders is what they are and they can't shake it.
I'm trying to get rid of stuff. As you get older, you start to realize that most of it doesn't mean squat and you can hardly give it away. My kids don't want our stuff. Now what? |
At least I’m not collecting crap. Porsche’s are all worth collecting in my opinion.
Better than wives kids and houses. |

Funny. I spoke to Vic about that car weeks ago.
The price was better for him via BAT. My dad had limited the search to “within driving distance of 2 hrs or less”. That was a nice car for sure! |
I may be posting my 65 SC Sunroof coupe for sale soon on BAT. All matching #s. Vic built the hot street engine, 1720 Shasta pistons, Hot Cam, head work etc for it about 20k miles, 20 years ago. It is one robust, strong runner. Happy that Vic got all the $$ for his C=Coupe.

Old school... put it on the Registry first, then eBay (w/ high reserve, natch), then finally play BaT, when nothing else works.
C’mon... the world can’t be filled w/ aged, lazy gin-soaked reactionaries, can it? |
Saw some cool ones today at Gaswerks.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1525571040.jpg

Update - Down to these cars and their respective Sales Representatives/reputations - if you know a reason why these two shouldnt be joined together....
1) Aetna Blue 356 -$90K https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2151669 Gary Cove in MASS is representing the car - I did note two bubbles about the size of a pinky nail...but is that the freshadwoing of things to come? Resto is 20yrs old 2) Silver 64 SC -$125K https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/999931-1964-356-euro-sc-coupe.html Don Ahern in Long Island NY is repping the car via PorSport Resprayed recently, minus the door jambs... but an honestly beautiful car 3) Red Super 90 - $120K Will see this tomorrow for the first time - not listed or I would share 4) Red SC $125K https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1000162-1965-porsche-356sc-coupe-sunroof.html As seen here - NorthWestern seller that makes it somewhat difficult to consider but the Sunroof SC is rare, right? Any final words of advice? Are prices crazy? My thinking is that these are all SOLID body cars (sans the 2 spots on Aetna) and they dont need resto now or hopefully in my life....which is good as a decent resto and paint is $50K no matter what, due to the "while we were...." and the demand for a good solid restoration. It’s just expensive. |
356’s
Of the choices listed, I like the Aetna blue S90 with the factory sunroof. That’s a very nice color, but I am biased against exterior red.
The ad does not specify whether the engine/transmission match the chassis (I don’t really care but most buyers who drop $100k do), so verify those details. A 20 year old restoration would not bother me, that’s more than enough time for defects to surface. Unless the restoration was from a top shelf shop, I would be more concerned with a recent restoration. Let us know what you decide, I skimmed the posts, but I guessed I missed your intentions are for the car. Will it be a nice driver, or a show piece? |
It will be a DD for my dad. 20 miles to 'work' and back per day.
Fair weather only and likely only April - Nov (we live in the Northeast sp wont drive during SALT season). |
For the love of God those cars are gorgeous. I'm green with envy.

I happen to like the T2 & silver SC... but more important is diligence on your part. Very good 356s ain’t cheap... but if it’s a keeper, don’t sweat the last $ ... just make sure your Dad likes it.

Plastic ...as the gentleman said above is protection...like a car condom...helps keep things from getting ugly.
Still looking - spoke to a well connected 356 person and the hunt has expanded. Dad really feels like an SC is the way to go, and...drum roll...he may just allow me to expand the search to our Golden Coast, a prophet on the burning shore...thats right - CALIFORNIA And now, a word from the Grateful Dead: My time coming, anyday, don't worry about me, no Been so long I felt this way, I'm in no hurry, no Rainbows and down that highway where ocean breezes blow My time coming, voices saying they tell me where to go. Don't worry about me, nah nah nah, don't worry about me, no And I'm in no hurry, nah nah nah, I know where to go. California, preaching on the burning shore California, I'll be knocking on the golden door Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine. My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me so Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passin' slow Still I know I lead the way, they tell me where I go. Don't worry about me, no no no, don't worry about me, no And I'm in no hurry, no no no, I know where to go. California, a prophet on the burning shore California, I'll be knocking on the golden door Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine. You've all been asleep, you would not believe me Them voices tellin' me, you will soon receive me Standin' on the beach, the sea will part before me Fire wheel burning in the air! You will follow me and we will ride to glory, way up, the middle of The air! And I'll call down thunder and speak the same and my work fills the Sky with flame And might and glory gonna be my name and men gonna light my way. My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me so Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passin' slow My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no Don't worry about me, no no no, don't worry about me, no And I'm in no hurry, no no no, don't worry about me, no. on your way to terrapin station, just be sure to avoid the fire on the mountain.
