Feel like we are getting closer.

Update - Down to these cars and their respective Sales Representatives/reputations - if you know a reason why these two shouldnt be joined together....

1) Aetna Blue 356 -$90K
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2151669
Gary Cove in MASS is representing the car
- I did note two bubbles about the size of a pinky nail...but is that the freshadwoing of things to come? Resto is 20yrs old

2) Silver 64 SC -$125K
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/999931-1964-356-euro-sc-coupe.html
Don Ahern in Long Island NY is repping the car via PorSport
Resprayed recently, minus the door jambs... but an honestly beautiful car

3) Red Super 90 - $120K
Will see this tomorrow for the first time - not listed or I would share

4) Red SC $125K
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1000162-1965-porsche-356sc-coupe-sunroof.html
As seen here - NorthWestern seller that makes it somewhat difficult to consider but the Sunroof SC is rare, right?

Any final words of advice?

Are prices crazy? My thinking is that these are all SOLID body cars (sans the 2 spots on Aetna) and they dont need resto now or hopefully in my life....which is good as a decent resto and paint is $50K no matter what, due to the "while we were...." and the demand for a good solid restoration. It’s just expensive.

356’s

Of the choices listed, I like the Aetna blue S90 with the factory sunroof. That’s a very nice color, but I am biased against exterior red.

The ad does not specify whether the engine/transmission match the chassis (I don’t really care but most buyers who drop $100k do), so verify those details.

A 20 year old restoration would not bother me, that’s more than enough time for defects to surface. Unless the restoration was from a top shelf shop, I would be more concerned with a recent restoration.

Let us know what you decide, I skimmed the posts, but I guessed I missed your intentions are for the car. Will it be a nice driver, or a show piece?

It will be a DD for my dad. 20 miles to 'work' and back per day.
Fair weather only and likely only April - Nov (we live in the Northeast sp wont drive during SALT season).

For the love of God those cars are gorgeous. I'm green with envy.

You kidding?? When you have a small garage with nice s**t, parking anything under an aircooled Porsche is a great risk. What, yours doesn't leak??

I happen to like the T2 & silver SC... but more important is diligence on your part. Very good 356s ain’t cheap... but if it’s a keeper, don’t sweat the last $ ... just make sure your Dad likes it.

littleoldman 06-24-2018 05:25 AM

Plastic ...as the gentleman said above is protection...like a car condom...helps keep things from getting ugly.

Still looking - spoke to a well connected 356 person and the hunt has expanded. Dad really feels like an SC is the way to go, and...drum roll...he may just allow me to expand the search to our Golden Coast, a prophet on the burning shore...thats right - CALIFORNIA

And now, a word from the Grateful Dead:

My time coming, anyday, don't worry about me, no
Been so long I felt this way, I'm in no hurry, no
Rainbows and down that highway where ocean breezes blow
My time coming, voices saying they tell me where to go.
Don't worry about me, nah nah nah, don't worry about me, no
And I'm in no hurry, nah nah nah, I know where to go.
California, preaching on the burning shore
California, I'll be knocking on the golden door
Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light
Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine.
My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no
It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me so
Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passin' slow
Still I know I lead the way, they tell me where I go.
Don't worry about me, no no no, don't worry about me, no
And I'm in no hurry, no no no, I know where to go.
California, a prophet on the burning shore
California, I'll be knocking on the golden door
Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light
Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine.
You've all been asleep, you would not believe me
Them voices tellin' me, you will soon receive me
Standin' on the beach, the sea will part before me
Fire wheel burning in the air!
You will follow me and we will ride to glory, way up, the middle of
The air!
And I'll call down thunder and speak the same and my work fills the
Sky with flame
And might and glory gonna be my name and men gonna light my way.
My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no
It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me so
Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passin' slow
My time coming, any day, don't worry about me, no
Don't worry about me, no no no, don't worry about me, no
And I'm in no hurry, no no no, don't worry about me, no.

on your way to terrapin station, just be sure to avoid the fire on the mountain.
