911 1974 coupe - price and comments
Hi guys,
I am on the look for a good 911 1974, preferably an S model but a plain 911 will do. I stumbled upon this one, but have a hard time figuring out the price range on these in US. Please comment on the porsche, anything that brings the price up or down - the extras or pros and cons for this one. Would love some input ![]() THX in advance https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars/1974/porsche/911/100962185 |

The seller quotes some NADA prices in his listing. Those seem high. If the 37k miles can actually be documented, that would certainly be a bonus to support the price.
I find it a little odd, that one of the engine photos shows that the decals around the rear latch are missing, and that the latch mechanism has been painted over, but then other photos show the stickers in place, and the latch mechanism NOT painted. Which is it? Are some of the pictures old? Has the car been repainted? I tend to think $50k is a bit high...if it was a better 70's color, (yellow, orange, mexico blue, green etc..) then $50k might be ok..???? But you can get a really nice SC or Carrera for $50k. I very rarely see mid-years in the $50's.

Not a chance that car is 37,000miles. Lie number 1 and a big one.
Don't trust the seller. 74's have rust issues. A through PPI for rust and condition is required. Car is worth $40k tops if it checks out. I suspect there are a lot of things that need attention and it will make it a $33k-35k car.

Looks like a later engine due to heater configuration. Or somebody changed heater system later. I’d ask for some underbody pics, engine and trans numbers. Mirrors are incorrect and so are wheels. I highly doubt the 37K miles...

It's not even a 2.7 motor. That's a 3.0 SC motor so definitely not a #'s matching car and obviously not the actual miles.

The car has been repainted in the copperbrown metallic color, same color as stated on the COA. Good spotting with the decals - seems it is the seller that did the respray or ordered a partial respray. The photos I got from an inspector was with the decals
![]() Had a lemon inspection done, but they didn't come up with anything in particular. Engine number: 6146577 Transmission: 140204 The NADA report he printed is for an S model - It is much lower for a plain 911 - excellent condition states just above 50k. The rims are 15 inch Fuchs (Seller says original) - is that not original for a 911 74? I dont trust the 37 either - the engine seems to have been rebuilt but runs smooth in both engine and gearbox. Rust wise, nothing was found but a thorough ppi would be good. The front spoiler is correct? What kind of heater system is periodic correct? |

Why is there a similar brown car, on BAT right now, from the same dealer, ....??? Seems odd..
The seller may have got his photos mixed up on the autotrader link.... Already bid to $40k...

Quote:
It's a brown '75 with 38k miles listed...and the one you linked is a metallic brown '74 with 37k miles listed....that is 'similar'. I stand corrected on the sellers being the same. I got pics confused. I do think the BAT car looks far better than the autotrader car...especially if your planning to spend $50k.

Had a fresh pic of the engine number... appers to be a 2.7 911 S in this one (6279066)
Which for me makes worth a lot less. Glad to see the brown one, I pushed the wrong fan in my browser.... my mistake ! Looks great, but I do think it is going for more than 50... and my budget is maxing out around 45 ![]() |

If the 74 is non matching 3.0L with a bad paint job and no rust then it’s worth $26k.
Because that’s what I just paid for the same car in black two month ago. Sent from my iPhone while Driving
