I think BAT knows that if they insist on too low of a reserve, sellers will just walk and BAT gets zilch.
If, on the other hand, they allow the seller to set the reserve, at least they got the $99 listing and if reserve not met, they can always try to negotiate some compromise at the end.
It's all a cat & mouse game anywhere, whether CL ,eBay, or even here where buyers will always try to lower the "reserve"...

Can you point to a few that you thought were great buys in the past few weeks?

This was an $88,000 buy and you could have done this without the uncertainty of a BaT auction. IMO; This is current market...... a great buy would have been $75,000 or less.

Interesting....... what is a great BaT buy....... is it the uniqueness or the end value paid....... It ties to the theme of the thread........

Is BaT about unique cars (and wheels) or has it become a site to sell cars.....

I bought a car from a BAT employee a couple of years ago. I asked why he didn't list it on BAT. He said they heavily pressured him to sell it no reserve, which he didn't want to do. So rather than take the risk, he sold it to me. And this was a guy who works for them.

Is there another website that picked up where BAT has left? An enthusiast site that lists and describes interesting cars that pop-up all over the interwebs? I feel like BAT throws in a random craigslist ad here and there so they can't be accused of just being an auction site.

Anyone remember BAT's throttleyard.com motorcycle only website? Unfortunately, it didn't last long.

Things change quick! I was looking at these six months ago and most were $100-110k and a few higher mileage cars in the $90-100k range. I didn't think they would get to the $80k range... ever.

P.D OK:), I never spelled it out just thought Petey as it sounds when saying hello. His dad lives around the corner from me in Bayside. He was driving with Acura last year @ RA in The American Lemans at least that was announced over the speakers. Oh well, Brand Ambassador is good too.

I have sold 4 cars on BaT, I was not able to set the reserve I wanted on 2 of them but they all sold. I think it is a great place to sell and on occasion you can find a good deal. I only find the deals after the fact though:confused: I have another car that will be going there soon and just found a Lancia Fulvia that has been stored for 20 years that I am debating on listing there as a non running barnfind project. I never go toe to toe with the idiots or the smog police, but do chime in on any real questions.

Those guys are making a ton and I wish it was me!!!!!
