BaT: Losing its way?

What is happening over at Bat?

It appears to be a hodgepodge...... jewels and junk..... indiscriminate in its offerings.... I understand the pursuit of profit (they have struck gold) but is this what they want to become......

Is BaT losing their way or finding their way.........

Whatever it is, there’s still the BaT KoolAid Being passed around by the bidders. Some of the prices being paid are nuts, it’s like the buyers have just discovered the internet, and this is the only website they know of.

If you believe that BaT is the only source or buy into some of the ridiculous comments, then you probably think BaT has lost its way. I don’t. I also believe that true, educated buyers see through the stupidity of some of the comments and there are great buys to be had. I’m on there every day as I love the format and there are some real gems that come up. The 25 year owned, red 1978 SC is a great example. If it goes in the mid-20’s, what a deal!

I look at the price of Fuch wheels there & am stunned.

It seems as if people will buy something there just to have a connection with BaT ~ so that then they can perhaps be with the "in crowd." The next week you can hear them singing "I bought blah blah on Bat" or "I bid on this or that on BaT" Its a odd phenomenon.

But they still can pull the money on some Porsches. Last weeks 1988 911 turbo targa is proof. Nothing remarkable, but $150k took 'er home. Nicely sold.

Bat

And Vic Skirmants just sold a very nice 356C for more than it was listed for the last 3 months. Great for Vic. Easy way to get great exposure for your car to people who are not very good at looking for cars.

The peanut gallery and their comments would scare me a little to try and sell something on there. If you have watched the pelican members 78sc that sells today you can see it in action. People with no intention of bidding asking questions and ripping the car apart.

Amen! Its like they all want to prove that they know or have revealed something. And they want their notoriety on BaT for it no matter the cost to the seller.

Awful.

That’s all part of the fun. BaT is a seller’s best friend. Spend an hour taking 100 pictures of every nook and cranny, make a video of start up and a drive, be creative. One of the best was the guy with an old Mustang who set this cell phone on the ground and drove over it slowly while it recorded a video of the undercarriage. Brilliant! Play the game well and reap the reward. True buyers see right through the stupidity of 10% of the posts, as do those who have real experience with that model who will push back against the stupidity. Personally, I love BaT as a seller, but would tread very carefully as a buyer. While there are still deals to be had, they are rare.

I’m still planning on listing my car there... eventually. And I have no intention of engaging the peanut gallery. Some say that is shooting yoursrlf in the foot, but if they are trolling why feed them? Legitimate inquiries are different. Let the yahoos rip. They’ve got no money anyway.

Remember the good old days on Pelican when you could comment in the cars for sale section? They removed that feature for a reason.

This. Great place to sell. Not so great to buy.

Classifieds has its place, but nothing has as much exposure for the seller these days as BAT.

Love it or hate it, it is now the premier selling spot for eclectic cars.

That is why they started this, 'market place discussions' so people can discuses a car with out running all over some ones ad. The best of both worlds, which is of course a compromise.

I have a BaT question since I don’t hang out there much. The option to flag a post as non-productive; is it used? Do people flag garbage? And does BaT remove it?

Yes, but only if they are personal, vulgar or extremely ridiculous. If you flag it, it will get reviewed and addressed quickly.
