Bring A Trailer? Opinions..........
I have been watching the BAT and I cannot believe the prices folks are literally giving away their cars for. Come on, their must be a catch here! Granted, the buyer must be aware because without a PPI prior to sale, you never know what you are buying. The prices seem way to low and I have to question the motivation of the sellers, especially when you see expensive exotics going for low prices.
I want to get some opinions from those who have had the experience of purchasing or selling a vehicle on BAT, good, bad or ugly! Some of these sales are too good to be true, especially on the 996 and SC models. Thanks Bob 1973.5T/CIS |

BAT Thoughts
BAT is pretty up front format, you have the option to have a reserve or sell without, the numbers you see are for real, you also have to contend with the peanut gallery but at the end of the day I would choose them over ebay or other formats to sell my Porsche. BAT also will ask you quite a few questions as you enter into the posting format to qualify your vehicle.
Good luck |

I bought my Scout on BaT. I feel like I stole it. The owner didn't take great photographs for the auction and it had some ugly wheels and the tires were at the end of their life. When it arrived from across the country, I was blown away by how little rust it had and how well it ran.

As a seller, they want you to put the reserve they think it is worth. After some back and fourth they back off a bit and a compromise can be met. PPI's can be done before the auction ends if time permits. It's no different than the big auction houses.
The person that purchased my car was completely happy with it. We actually became friends and continue to do so today. Would I buy a car off BAT? absolutely! Some cars can be a good deal others not so much. If you are selling, do your best to take many detailed photos. A video or two is helpful as well. As a buyer you can always contact the seller and ask for additional information..something that I believe can't be done with the big auction houses.

I've bought two cars off BAT and am very happy with both purchases. Both cars were pretty much as described, and they were fly-out-and-drive home purchases (Atlanta and Vancouver, to Chicago.) If you're considering buying a car it is, as ever, worth paying attention to the seller, how they present the car, what they share about the car, and how they respond to questions. If you're not local enough to see the car and meet the seller in person, this is your primary means of vetting them.

Thanks for the interesting comments. Still hard to believe some of the prices these cars are sold for.

Interesting. Some here (not me) are of the opinion that buyers consistently overpay on BAT.

A lot of the air cooled actually seem to sell for a premium compared to cars here, don’t forget the 5% to BAT

5% is a decent chunk of change and $99.00 to list so do your maths before you go to BAT.

5% is a buyers premium, in addition to the sale price. Kind of a no brainer for the seller, as a buyer, you have to figure in the 5% plus shipping, if applicable.

I have never heard anyone say the selling prices are too low on BAT. Can you post the links to the cars you're referring to?

$3500 for a set of 16X6 and 16X7 fuchs. Yes, they are restored but I wouldn't say they are a 'steal' by any means. |

I thought the OP intended to use the sarcasm font.

It’s great for a seller if you can handle the constant stream of questions/concerns coming your way for a week, and many times they’re not even from someone interested in bidding (really annoying). But as a buyer, it’s about the worst way to buy a car. Paying over market at hammer (most of the time), then add on another 5% to BaT, and then close the deal without a PPI. That’s just totally stupid in my book. I enjoy watching the ridiculousness of the peanut gallery though. |

Although I will say, as their volume goes through the roof (currently around 135 auctions running) prices seem to be slipping a bit. E.g. The 71,000 mile G50 Targa that went for $38 today). That's dangerous for bat. They insist on very low reserves, which sellers like me have not minded, because we know how ridiculous bidders have been. But I have lost some faith in that. They offered to list my G50 for a $35k reserve a month ago. I sold it elsewhere for $20k more than that. Would it have done better in bat? I'll never know, but I don't think so. |

Your post is the understatement of the day. Anyone who thinks that these wheels were way over bid should do a quick search in the Parts For Sale forum here...
