Very nice 78 930 on BAT

Just a heads up. My son just informed me he put up a restored 78 930 I gave him a few years ago ( can't take em with you). It was a major concours award winner @ the Road & Track concours, Road America, when I had it there in 2014 and has had less than 2K miles since. All sorted since a refresh by the original owner who had it until I got it about 7 years ago. According to the COA all matching numbers and ordered color to sample #867 (Brokatrot ) with the good stuff ( sport seats, limited slip ) and is a very nice car with no accidents or bad weather driving since new. Check it out!
After I got it I asked him, why a restoration? He said it was looking older when parked next to his many new Ferrari's he's owned over the years, and said he treated it like one of his children. Photos below are from shortly after I got it ( lots of photos on BAT) . Interested what it gets on BAT. I recommended he take it to a major auction @ Monterey, Carmel, Pebble beach later this year as it is of that quality, but he has confidence that BAT might do OK. Comments welcome.

The color is awesome in an aircooled 911 - my third Porsche - a '76 924 (made in early '76 that was a '77) was this exact color.

My feeling is that the mileage, the repaint, etc is going to ding it. Since these cars are well underway to being the next RS - the ones that are original are the ones to have, and when you're spending the money these now command you probably want them 1) with original paint, and 2) less miles, and 3) more original - and you don't care about spending another $50K to receive lower mileage and original paint.

Does the original color even matter if its now been repainted? I am not sure.

I'd peg it at $148K - and I think it would be worth that to the right person, but someone in this collector venue would want a collector car. So with that said, I still believe the original, low mileage cars will always win (they are out there), and this one, even as clean as it is it's going to be a hard sell to get top dollar like $200K. If the paint were original (even slightly worn) with other things, it just would bring more money. It just would.

These early 930s no longer straddle the fine line between collector and driver/hobbyist car - the money is so large that they are collector and aren't going back. Would I put $150K on this car? Maybe. But with the new paint and other things, I would probably take that money and put it on an original car.

$148K for this car? I'll have some of what you're smoking!

It's a nice car but it's more like $80-$85K.

That car will do no where near 148k

The 79 1 owner Silver paint to sample with 21k miles did 156k

This car does 85-100k IMO
Nice car though

But it is a nice car. It really is. No way that car is going for less than $100K. It would be not just a tremendous bargain, but a tremendous injustice.

Tell me you didn’t read the entire listing first before commenting...this car doesn’t have 14k miles on it, it’s got at least 140k miles. You could buy a pair of these for 148k, and still have some money left over. I hope you just didn’t read this thoroughly, cause this isn’t worth anywhere near your estimate.

great color

I sold my 83 Turbo with 50,000 miles in the same color 3 years ago.Condition and color says it all.Due to the quality of the car and some provenance of the father I see $125-150,000 for this car.I think the details have to be appreciated in person that the photos will not show.Ciao Fred

The provenance of the father?!? Now we’re really smoking some strong stuff here.

Anthony, I’ll sign all my P cars over to you to sell for me if it’ll double their value.

Turbo market is no where near what it was 3 years ago unfortunately, will be a fun auction to watch.

Car is worth $85k - $100k most likely. Mods and stereo are going to keep the price down IMO.

Here's a $150k example.

Yes, you are right. But I think this is still worth $100K based on this price. No way this is a $75K car or a $85K car. No way.

You could not buy this car for $74K. Sorry. I don't know what world you've been living in, but the 1978 Turbo market has never been this low for five years. Never.

You’re really questioning my reality when you think a TMU car with at least 140k miles on it is worth 148k? That’s hilarious. Maybe I just buy smarter than you. I know exactly where the 930 market is. I’ve got a bunch of them, and just bought another a couple of months ago. I have no doubt this car isn’t worth what you say it is.

Do you have a car of similar value?

You are saying your reality is $74K for this car? We'll see. Since you know exactly where the 930 market is, I guess $74K is all the money. That's your number. You put it out there. We'll see.

I don’t know how to answer this since we don’t come close to agreeing upon value. I obviously believe my cars are worth far more than this one. Hagerty is insuring my collection in the seven figures without any issues or pushback on my valuations.

This isn’t a bad car at all, that’s not what I was saying, but it’s far from a collector grade investment, and that’s the only guy spending in the 150k range or more on an old 930 now. This one doesn’t fit in that box the slightest. Hopefully for Anthony’s son he finds two buyers that love this color and are willing to own such a high mileage TMU car. And end up fighting over it to bid it up. While the color is rare, it’s probably because it’s less desirable. If this pulls six figures then I may ship my collection to Anthony to attach his magic to them to sell for me. ;-)
