Value of friends 914
My moms best friend from for ever is selling her 914. It’s a 1973 1.7. She is the original owner! Car has 213,000 on the clock, with a recent engine rebuild. Runs great, shifts great! I took it for a spin today! I’m having trouble giving her an accurate value. It’s in original condition. Original yellow paint, and it’s all there. Seats are shot, dash is cracked, and the targa top has seen better days. I love that it’s an original car with an original owner. I have know where to keep it or I would probably buy it! Anyway, what does everyone think?

Rust is the big issue on old 914's.........If rust free, very desirable...........

My first Porsche was a yellow '73 1.7...with that said it was the first Porsche I learned valuable lessons on - that is, rust lessons. Mine was in Connecticut, but with that said, I would say $8K...that's a lot of miles, but it was probably maintained. Rust is the killer here. It lurks on every 914.

As mentioned by Sal, the mileage gives it a hit. Lower miles it's a $15-20k car. Given the miles, and assuming decent paint and no rust, $10-12K.

I agree that a clean '73 1.7 would get $15-$20K no problem. It's 2018. I never saw that many in 1985. I probably saw 30-40 back in Connecticut when I was driving age. Even then a 2.0 was getting strong money. I knew I guy that bought a clean 2.0 for $7K in 1986. I don't know what book value places them at, but if the longitudinals and floors are nice, and it has nice mechanicals then why not? I'd be happy to have one. I would welcome the Type IV engine right now.
