I am considering selling my 2004 R1100S as I'd like to move into an R1200S, and simply can't justify having two bikes that are so similar. That being said, I would considering a trade for an R12 and would be happy to add some cash on top for the right bike. Also, if you have anything else to offer as a trade, it doesn't hurt to ask.
If you have been wanting one of these bikes, I guarantee that there is no better rider's example than this one available for sale at the time of writing this. Do not be fooled by low mileage offerings. Low miles typically means not enough maintenance, in my experience. Much of the wear and tear on these bikes can come from age, and if you buy a low mileage bike with nothing but basic maintenance in the last 20 years you are in for the headache of your life. I would take this R11 over absolutely any other. This is a turn the key and go kind of bike, you take it absolutely anywhere with nothing to worry about. Just had it out on a ~600 mile camping trip last weekend. In my time with it, I've replaced all of the problematic, failure-prone, components, and then some. Many out of necessity, but some prematurely. I have taken this bike on multiple ~1500 mile trips without even a hiccup. This bike eats miles on the highways and is fantastic in the mountains, but I'm sure you already knew that. I will provide a full list, but here are some of the general, service and modification highlights: - 2004 R1100S, purchased in July of 2019 at ~66,000 miles, currently has ~75,500 miles - Piedmont Red Metallic (a pretty rare color for these and only available in 2004, much nicer IMO than the far more common Marrakesh Red) - Ohlins adjustable front shock, very nice low mileage OEM rear shock (also adjustable) - Stock bars above yolk - CNC peg lowering kit installed - Cat Delete Y Pipe and Laser Exhaust (stock headers) - Shorter CNC paralever arm included - OEM luggage with city lid included - EBC Front and Rear Brake Pads - Used transmission with ~21,000 miles installed at ~69,000 miles, along with extended spline clutch plate, slave cylinder, and all related components. The splines were gorgeous on the installed transmission. - Every component of the fuel system has been replaced minus the injectors which were professionally serviced - Left side cam chain tensioner upgrade from Beemer Boneyard - iABS has been flushed and serviced twice during ownership - Clutch, Brake, Engine (oil and filter), Transmission and Final Drive oils have been replaced yearly, - Emerald Isle Paralever Bushings installed, greased yearly - Dunlop Roadsmart 3 tires with only a 3 years and ~5,000 miles on them, minimal wear - New AGM battery at start of ownership - All New Ignition Coils - New Hall Effect sensor professionally installed and timed Price is $5,000, and I am located in Chicago, IL. Please PM me here if you are interested, or you can find the Facebook marketplace listing in the Chicago area. I am sure I probably missed a few items here and there so if you have any questions or would like verification on any of these items please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Good to see you're considering moving up to an R1200S. Despite others stating R1200S's "clunky gearbox", "shoddy rear brake", buzziness, etc., I continue to marvel at the overall performance of my R1200S. Yes, I still like the R1100S, but strongly prefer the 12S (or even the R1200R camhead) over the 1100S. I have an HP2S on the back burner, and hope to round out my stable shortly. Good luck on your sales, and in your pursuits.

Fabulous bike with great maintenance and upgrades. I've forgotten did you post this too on the FB 1100S groups and BMWs for sale groups? If not I suggest you do that too.

Don't list it on BAT!

Did not post on the Facebook group. It's absolutely not going on Bring a Trailer! Really not in a rush to sell, wouldn't mind if it doesn't sell either. So I just posted it here.

Not even on BAT with a reserve price a seller is willing to part with it for? I ask because my plan is to put my R11S and old 916 up in the spring. From what I see many bikes go for over market value.

Why does one say not to post on BAT? I can see why not on marketplace as there are so many inquiries to buy something for a aunt or a prince ... I've had good luck on Craigslist foe real buyers and not scammers ... oh, why not keep the R11 and add the R12? That's what I did as a R12 came to me when I was looking for R11 pannier brackets (those brackets ended up being way more expensive than I planned!).

Go ahead and list with BAT but insist on a reserve. They will try to discourage you from that but you run the risk of getting stuck with a final bid much lower than you wanted. Someone gets lucky and it ain't you.
Full disclosure, I have not personally used BAT. I am only going on my brother's experience trying to sell a quite nice though not corksniffer perfect R90S and getting a ridiculous final bid. They'd delayed his listing until they wore him down and he dropped his reserve. |

Ah ok, thanks Tom V. I won't lost without a reserve I'm willing to part with either for.

I’ve sold multiple vehicles on Bring a Trailer, very familiar with the process. I just want to know that this bike goes to a new home. I’m not selling it because I need space. I’m not selling it because I need money. I just know when I add an R1200S it’s not going to get ridden. I want someone to enjoy this bike. I’ve poured blood, sweat, and tears into this bike. It’s the only reason I am mechanically inclined. It started everything for me. Hoping someone who wants a riders bike comes along and picks it up. But I wouldn’t mind it sticking around just for sentimental reasons.

If you're familiar with BaT especially when it comes to motorcycle listings then you'd be familiar with their push torwads a " no reservere" posting, which in many cases especially when motorcycles are concerned is never a good case. GLWS.

I, like you, poured a bunch of sweat equity into the R11 ... (really cheap therapy actually) and it was frustrating, enjoyable, a learning experience but most of all a great sense of accomplishment. I understand the sentimental part and my suggestion again is to find a way to keep both! Completely different machines despite their lineage. Oh, and by the way, there is a R1200s on Bring a Trailer right now with only 3 days left .... oh, its the fastest version one too (Shine Yellow!). https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2007-bmw-r1200s-20/ Good luck with bidding!!!
