Because I probably didn't know any better I used a tie wrap which graps the rubber boot and it is under that metal ring so it is snuggly held in place and will not wiggle off unless the tie wrap...

Installed the new rubber boot and it fits perfectly - no doubt the PO had the wrong one installed (thats another reason why the leather boot never fit correctly and always was coming off!

From what i found out the 944 uses the same rubber boot from 83-91 so i don't understand why on my 1985 early 944 this orginal rubber boot (Which is under the leather boot) does not snap on correctly...

I can not believe that no one has every replaced the shift boot and knob in a 944!
