You would have to drill 2 small holes to attach the base. It's in two parts.
You can remove the heater red lever plastic handles to make installation easier but I have managed to wiggle it on...

On my 82SC I was able to pull it out from the front. Used a small screw driver to lift one side to find the little tabs holding it in place. Could be different for your year.

I did this last year and what I did was to remove the #4 and 5 runners. You will have to undo the short rubber hoses to be able to twist them off. Start with #4 and then 5 until you get to that nut....
