Mine's a late offset 944 with 17x9 ET55 cupII wheels, 15mm spacers in the rear and 255/40 Nitto NT-01 tires. It all fits nicely with the fenders rolled.

You can get it off the car to work on it if you like. Disconnect the inner CV from the trans, remove the axle nut outside the hub and the whole unit will come out. Then you can hack the thing apart...

If you're concerned about fuel economy, go with a closed cooling system. A system using raw water tends to over-cool the engine and efficiency is lost.
