Actually, they changed the offset in 1987 to accommodate ABS. In the process, they also made it easier to change the brakes and stregthed the spindles.

I would really check all of the old wiring that is still being used. It does have a tendency to crack and short.

I had the same issue when I converted to 17"...

I had the same issue when I converted to 17" wheels and it turned out that my shock was toast. When I replaced them, the issue went away.

I went with the flowable silicone from Permatex option and it has held for a couple of years. I am resigned to the fact that I will have to replace the hatch at some point though.

I have had a ton of issues on my turbo with bad t-stats. Had one which would not open at all until 95C and it was supposed to be a 80C t-stat. Sounds like you found part of the issue.

$1K seems high if the belts and rollers are okay. If it just the WP, it should be less. Their rate is $89.50 per hour.

FYI - you are going to spend $300+ on tools if you go the Arnnworx way or...

Have you verified all of your vaccum connections? There are usually leaks somewhere - often under the intake manifold.

Actually, with current prices it may be a bit high with that mileage. Has it ever had a clutch done? Any fluid leaks?

I would be concerned over a timing belt job that lead to a no start...
