Don't know if you have the room but if have any of the plug exposed a small pipe wrench would probably do the trick. I just serviced mine and I know the fill is in a tight location.

I think the worst thing about the stock shifter...

I think the worst thing about the stock shifter is the lack of feeling a gate. The shift pattern it so loose, sloppy, and wide. Not what you would expect from this type of car.
