yeah i believe you do have a bad head gasket or a cracked head between the oil and coolant passages not between the combustion chamber and other parts of the head, this is not a terribly uncommon...

if you have an x5 your car uses ds2 series bulbs, there shouldn't be any external ballasts cause they're integral to the chassis wiring, so now all you have to do is look online for some 6000k DS2...
