New to me 1999 996
Lucked into a pretty nice 52k mile 99’. Pretty base model. Zero options from I can tell from a cosmetic point of view. Has pretty nice forged wheels of some type. I hope Fiske. Need to pull off and check. Probably China though. Has an exhaust and intake upgrade. Seems to be lowered. Pretty nice working order. 9 owners!! Oh well, practically free. Cannot complain. Have new LN IMS to install. Somehow I do not think it needs it, will drive until I install in a few weeks, last two owners had no issue obviously and it has been pretty reliable since one of my customers has owned it for the past two years. Going to see if a buddy can get me any dealer records. It was sold in 2016 by Park Place Porsche in Dallas and they said it did not need IMS (How do they know????)
Pretty solid car. I think rear spoiler may be out?? No lights on and no codes, but cannot hear it working or see in mirror. Switch does not work. Cruise not working. Battery was dead and I think it may need to be coded. Otherwise me likely ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I am sworn to secrecy, but it has to be the cheapest running, driving, clean 52k 911 on the planet! I hate to be that vague, but it was a deal of deals. Granted it could break tomorrow, but my hope is it can be my daily ride. Cheers! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Fixed the cruise. Just adjusted the clutch switch. Was not making contact when pedal was in up/rest position. Also put on new horn/airbag frame on steering wheel. No more hard braking horn. Great car!!

...And Spoiler works over 74mph, so must be bad manual override switch.
Getting a vibration at idle. Better when AC is off, so maybe tensioner and pulleys. Also maybe motor mounts. Might as well buy them all. I may have heard a millisecond of chain noise at start-up?? Boy, not sure how far to go with my ride. Part of me wants to make perfect and part says, screw it, drive it like I stole it and into the ground, LOL. Do not want to break it.... will drop it at shop and see what they diag and go from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Very nice! Love the color. I purchased a Arctic Silver 99 with ~110k miles a month ago and have really been enjoying it. It's my DD.
The button to deploy the spoiler manually is on the kick panel near the dead pedal (driver's side footwell). In case you haven't looked it up, here are your options: L84A - India Red c02 - catalytic converter 424 - CD compartment 437 - 8-way electrical seat, left 438 - 8-way electrical seat, right 490 - Basic sound system (Harmann analog) 537 - Seat memory, left 688 - CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-210 USA Welcome to the club! |

Thank you. Yes, I checked switch - been around 911-997’s for years. I do not mind the 996. I wish I could 996 size with 997 interior and headlamps. Oh well. Switch does not activate. Will worry about later. I did review my options online. Thank you for putting in writing. I will cut and paste and put in my folder, but I was aware. New issue this morning is possible bad coolant reservoir. Bleeder valve stays up. Going to buy a new one and cap and start there. I ordered $1000 in parts and may just shelve them for now. It works so well, at 52k miles, may just change the oil a lot - like every 3500 miles and just drive piss out of it ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have a nearly identical red 2000 996 that I bought 12 years ago with 37,000 miles. It now has 200,500 miles. It's my daily driver.
That chain rattle you hear is something you'll hear with every stone cold startup. It's normal. The way it was explained to me is that it's basically the cam chain tensioners that have bled down and just need a second or so to pump up. or something to that effect, anyway. My mechanic said it was nothing and normal. He said he could fix that, but that it would be a colossal waste of money for nothing really. |

What he said. I recently had the whole IMS drill done on my motor, along with new chain guides and tensioners. When it's 100% cold, there is still a little chain noise.

New to me 1999 996
^^^Thank you. It so slight that I figured as much. Was always an air cooled guy. Made my money on those and wanted a cheap daily - maintenance not included in cheap. I have a Ferrari F355 GTS that sucks enough money, but for the most part pretty bullet proof. Do about 50% of my own work on all my cars unless engine or trans gets opened up, then a specialist and only a few I trust.
I forgot how much fun the 996 was to drive. I had 2003 C4S (? Actually have to find pics and file to remember??) but was a C4s Silver with Boxster red interior. Loved that car. But as I get older, I like simple more, do not need the extra bits. Just heat and AC ![]() 355 makes all the right sounds. The 911 makes sense to daily. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Apparently this may be the best preventative maintenance you can do.

To be preventive , buy a ignition key contactor,
Generally , it's time to change it when you notice that the wipers start alone...............sometimes it's others electrics functions...............but the most of the times , that concerns the wipers. Buy it at Volkswagen , it's exactly the same part but less expensive. (25/30 dollars) I needed , i can give you the part number. Another point very important to prevent radiators fails , clim' & cooling , it's installing grids on the bumper , available at Rennline , or you can do it yourselves easily . And also , the water pump that starts to leak around (depending conditions evidently) 100 000 kms . Beware of the liquid coolant bleeding , the car must be inclined at the front , and the liquid level adjusted many times.

Thanks! Going strong. Figure out the cooling issue. All good. Has new new radiators. One of the “cap” lines on lower unused radiator fittings was leaking. It eventually split as I arrived home one night. Pulled liner and put a new one on. Bled system. All good. Put another new cap on it with later part number. Sent all parts back. Just going to drive it till it needs something..... Dang fuel pump just started making noise, LOL. Maybe that will be project over Christmas. Smile every time I drive.
