Oil level at top bar
Had oil change on my 997 done by shop that was doing some other items. I normally do it myself. Problem is after getting home, my check engine light came on. After car cooled down, I checked oil level, it is at top bar. Can possibly too much oil result in check engine light?

Top bar isn’t overfilled, it’s just at the top of the measure , unless it’s WAY overfilled and that’s the highest the gauge reads
Try taking the oil filter off, and then reinstall and lose about 1/2 of a quart and see if it lowers on the gauge The top tick and bottom tick are approximately 1 quart of oil

The top bar IS overfilled. How much you can’t tell. The arrow is the fill mark and you should have one unlit bar above that.
If you use a clean container you can drop oil right out of the drain plug. Do it warm. A half quart at a time until the level is at the arrow. |

On my '15 911, I accidently added about a pint too much oil. I got a message on the dash "oil overfill, safe to drive." Since the filter is mounted downside up (it drains when you shut off the motor), I just cracked the drain plug until it dripped into a small container, then torqued it back up. Warning went away.
