2006 Carrera S with 65000 Miles

I just purchased this car and the IMS has not been done. I have read everything and now I am seeing blurry.

At 65000 miles , from 0-10, o being none and 10 being it will explode, How would you rate my chances of having an IMS failure at this point.

Only reason I hesitate not just pulling the trigger and doing it is that for this early 997.1 I understand it requires and engine drop.

Thanks
John

It has the larger non-serviceable IMS
The motor case would have to be split to replace the IMS

They have a 1% failure rate from what I’ve read
Bigger issue is bore scoring

Negative. Some 2005 models may have had the replaceable bearing, but not the ‘06.
Drive the car. Change the oil every 3-4K and at least annually if less. Don’t worry. Be happy.

Pull the oil seal on the IMS. I did at ~57k. I now have ~112k miles.

ANY used car I buy gets a oil change A.S.A.P If it's a Porsche I also remove the oil pan to see what's in there if anything, & send a oil sample to LN engineering The IMSB experts.

This is my normal ride, this is a highly modified 2.7 twin plug, screamer. I am new to water cooled

Anyone know where I can get 997 Factory workshop manuals?

I assume you have collision insurance, Why not have a little internal engine collision insurance ? Nothing lasts for ever.

I found all the manuals and Tech Bulletins. I think my insurance will be drop the engine and do a full service. At minimum I think I will do RMS, Serpentine belt, filters, plugs, and IMS. If case has to be split, I will service what I can without that drama, unless I find cylinder scoring.

Another fun project!

Further research indicated that IMS Failure in 2006 models were slim to none on builds after 3/2005 - Mine was built 08/2006. I am not going to worry about it.
