996 (03) convertible clamshell wont close
Hi all,
I had the hydraulic rams on my 2003 C4S refurbished, replaced them and filled the system with hydraulic fluid during three or four operations of the top. The fluid level is good but when lowering the hood, it hesitates for a second or two about two thirds of the way down, then lowers in place but seems to sit about a half inch too far back and the clamshell does not close. To raise the hood I have to pull slightly on the hood as the button is pushed so it can pass the clamshell and then the hood closes and locks in place correctly and the clamshell closes but the quarter light windows do not close. Any ideas how I fix this please?

Not an expert, and had to have the dealer repair my top ($$$$) but that flap in the lower left corner of the picture should be lying flat at that point...Did the repair shop recalibrate all the switches in the top?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I did the removal and replacement of the rams myself and sort of hoped it would all work once the fluid was full. Not so I'm afraid! Are there microswitches involved with the flaps? |

I believe there are microswitches associated with the flaps. There is another option for you. Pelican Parts sells the Porsche shop manual for this convertible top. It would probably have the answer and the procedure for calibrating the top. It's $280 and I have been meaning to buy my own, but I already spent $3000 at the dealer to get my top repaired (cables that pull the clamshell release broke - $1000 in parts and $2000 in labor) and I am hoping to never deal with the top again!
