87 951
Hey guy's after months of searching i found a great 951 forsale in Diego.. here's when i start asking questions, i've talked to the guy for about an hour on the phone asking all sorts of questions, carfax came back clean, so now we move on to having a PPI done.. I am up in seattle, so i'm wondering if anyone is in or around the Diego area would be willing to take it out to a PPI?
Any help would be greatly appericiated. Thanks |

Hey guy's car is going to get checked out in the next couple of days once i investigate a little more... It's an 87 with 97,500 miles on the clock Fully loaded and in great shape.. It's a dealer trade in which kinda scares me not being able to speak with the previous owner.. Hes asking 8k.. Carfax came back clean, exterior of the car is in awsome shape same for the interior no cracks in the dash.. little bit of wear in the seats normal for a 18 year old car. He also said that recently they checked the engine out and it was running strong with no leaks, and they also replaced the alternator and power steering belts and the coolant and heater control valve. So anyways, wondering for 8k should i skip on this deal or take a chance and get her checked out?.. wouldn't want to pass up on a great deal.. but at the same time wouldn't want to get a lemon.. Anyways Lemme know what you guys think..

If you don't know enough about these cars to be comfortable with the pictures and the carfax you should get a PPI done down there. This will clear up any doubt. The dealer selling the car can direct you to a good shop. If they won't help you out just move on, there are more turbos out there.

Oh, that's what i'm doing, my first post was misinterpreted by the guy's, I was asking about a shop down there i found a good strictly porsche shop, i have an appointment with them to do a PPI top to bottom, they're also doing a leak test, and my buddy that i've talked to who's taking it to the shop is also a mechanic so he's also going to go over it prior to taking it in for a PPI to make sure it's even worth looking at, so i have my bases covered.. it almost seemed like a deal to good to be true, but it might be a great steal.. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Wow.. am i glad i took it in for an inspection, Turns out it was well taken care of on the outside.. but engine is in shambles.. the engine needs to be resealed, the oil pan is leaking, the power steering hoses are leaking, both tie rods are heavily worn and need to be replaced.. all in all a 3,000+ fix.... time to search for yet another car

it's already sold so it's not like i'm trying to sell it to you.
i'm just curious why you would choose; -an out-of-state long-distance car -that's older (87 vs 88) -that's a dealer trade-in -with an unknown owner -with an unknown maintenance history -that turned out to need +$3k worth of 'repairs' and pass up the opportunity for; -a local car -that's newer (88 vs 87) -for sale by the owner -who is active and known in the porsche community -with complete service records -for the same price and you never even saw the car in person, though it would have been very easy for you to, and now you're slamming it? seriously, what gives? did you not like the color? or maybe you enjoy doing long-distance purchasing? hmm... seems like you need to learn how to shop.

1. Your car had too many miles on it. 2. has complete records 3. your car was posted for what 9 or 10k.. 3k more than this one.. i don't need to learn how to shop.. i didn't want yours.. there weren't any others up for grabs anywhere locally.. rennlist they were all overpriced and didn't have the options that i wanted. now seriously drop it i dont feel like having a stupid argument over a god damn forum..

1) every experienced 951 owner will tell you that mileage means nothing. proper maintenance and non-abusive ownership means everything.
2) complete records going back 15+years ? 3) my car was posted for 8500 both here and on rennlist.

by the way, how close are you to seattle?
there's a local porsche drive up to winthrop this saturday and if you want, you can ride along in my car. there will be other 951's there and i'd like to introduce you to the local p-guys. i'd also like to show you what a properly maintained +180,000 mile 951 runs like. you'd be surprised. email me if you'd like to go; nize2 at msn.com thread is here; http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=244079
