machining 951 cylinder heads

Does anyone out there have a good set of specs I can give to my machine shop for cylinder heads? I need to get mine shaved a bit and would also love to know more about the O ring proceedure. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Will

is there a specific reason you want to shave the head?

The gasket has had a tendency to blow, atleast 4 times in the history of this car. My assumption is that I need to have them deck it like any other car. Then the "o" rings, then the fun stuff. I als wnat to get the face of block machined down to make sure it is true.

if the gasket is continuously failing, my guess would be there's a bigger problem elsewhere. you can try the widefire gasket from lbe;

If the gasket fails often, and you're only running stock boost levels, then I would have the head at least checked for flatness, also have the deck surface checked for flatness as well. If both check out, then you're probably running way lean.

The FSM's specify the maximum amount you can take off of the head, but I don't have them with me right now.

The widefire head gasket is a good idea if you plan to run the car in anything other than a stock configuration. It's just extra insurance. It saved my car when the stock head gasket most certainly would have failed several times.

If you're o-ringing, it's a good idea to go with the wide fire head gasket, since you're no longer running a stock configuration.
