2.7 Liter 944 Heads

In case anyone is looking, we happen to have a couple of the 89 944 NA heads from the 2.7 L motors. These are good for converting your 3.0 L 16 valve engine to a turbo 3.0.

Think, gobs of torque and gobs of power.

Of course, since they are rare, and since they are highly desireable, they are priced accordingly.

A 16v head will flow more than an 8v head any day. Why on earth would one do this?

because the porsche factory did?

porsche engineers found problems with the 16v setup on turbo motors, so they went with the 8v motor.

See, and I was always of the opinion that they went with the 8V head on all turbo 944s/968s so as not to embarass the 911...

With the 8V head you can use the 944 Turbo exhaust & intake. It gets expen$ive to adapt that stuff to the 16V head. Still scary fast with only 8V.

the 968 turbo embarasses the 911 even with 8valves;
http://vista.pca.org/stl/968t.htm

seriously though, they had problems with the 16valve head, and found it really wasn't necessary.

even bob norwood's legendary porsche 968 'doom' cars which put out +500hp all use the same 8valve head.

even when price is not a concern, and with a virtually unlimited budget (think: +$500,000 for one car) bob norwood still chose to go with the 8v head rather than the 16v head.

there is a reason for this.

I'm fairly certain that DFASTEST951's car (built by PowerHaus racing) uses a 16V head, with the predictable "OMFG" results. . . Something like just shy of 500 RWHP on less than a bar of boost.

porsche did it as they were building the car to comply to a given power to weight it made bags of torqe but still need a rescictor to race in the 320 hp per ton race having said that any thing over 400 hp and the twin can would pay off but with the single cam it all bolts together and you can be a bit more progressive with the spending and the power with the twin can it cost heaps and has to make over 440 hp or your a fool.
i would prefer a 400hp car tomorrow than a 550 that one day will run

Has anyone done this conversion

I have heard that you can resleeve the block and use J&E custon pistons with a 3.0 crank and produce a 3.2 or 3.3 litre torque monster.
Does anyone know of anyone that has done this succesfully?

using rolls royce or costom sleaves biggist i heard of that is running is 106 far from 3.2 i have the know how and by ,looking at the block i chose to leave it be rember it is the biggest petrol 4 banger ever
puncing up all the numbers i figured i could just get 3.2 with bore and stroke and it would be ambitous and out ragous ly expensive .
as i keep saying
"400 hp tomorrow is better than 500 hp next year some time"
