924S Powersteering Pump Attachment

Hello folks,

I have owned my 1987 924S for several years now and finally have a question for the group. I keep breaking the power steering pump adjuster. Recently I realized that the problem is probably that the previous owner somehow lost part of the pump mounting hardware. My pump just sits in the aluminum bracket on the engine, there is no bolt keeping it in there. When I look at the exploded diagram on Pelican's site, I see two items (#24 and 25) that seem to be a mounting bolt and sleeve. Do these attach the pump to the bracket?

The sleeve is sort of like a spacer. The pump gets sandwiched inbetween the two collars, the sleeve makes up the difference of space. There are two bolts i think that go in each end (i think, i did this about two months ago).

One thing you check if you keep breaking them is to see if the power steering pulley on the crank shaft is tightened and seated correctly. I know on my friends 944S, the bracket broke because the PS pulley was not seated right and 'wobbling'. This was transfering the 'wobble' through the belt and eventually cracked that bracket (which is also very expensive).

I agree with Techno...you have a wobble problem. Now, the question is whether it's the pulley or the mounting bolts. I suspect you found it when you discovered it was not mounted properly. I can't remember exactly how it mounted either, but the exploded diagram should provide that answer but I'll look at mine also.

Thanks for the info. I checked and there is no wobble that I can see. I did order the parts (sleeve and bolt) and I will install them this week (I hope). In the meantime I have the power steering belt on a little loose to keep from torquing the adjuster. So far so good...
