Rattling brake pads?
Hi all,
I rebuilt my 4 brake calipers about a week ago...new seals and all new pins and clips. Since a couple of days the pads in the rear are rattling like crazy, even going over bumps. I did put grease on the back of the pads. Is this a normal thing, because everything is cleaned up? BTW, I'm using Hawk HPS pads.

Did you make sure you seated the female portion of the pads fully inside the male porsion of the caliper? Sometimes it takes some work to get those to wiggle in the slot. I've even seen cheap shops mess that up.

Yes, I took care of that. I'm going to take the wheels off and inspect the whole deal again.

OK, problem solved...Me being paranoid about rattling brake pads, dangling calipers and floating discs...
![]() It ends up being the left rear shock that is blown. I had the car on the hoist today and while pulling it up and down, I can feel a big KNOCK inside the shock. Removing the lower mounting bolt made it go away. It's not leaking though. It's just a coincidence that it happened after doing my brakes. For the record...I put brand new Bilstein HD's on the car last year. Guess it's warranty time!!! Edit: Tightened the top bolt and the clunk seems gone!!! Fingers crossed...
