steering wheel

I'm 'overhaulin' my 1983 Porsche and I'm lookin to change my 3 spoke steering wheel. I thinkin about using the sport steering wheel which is about 1" in dia smaller. My question: Can I use a late model (after 1985 1/2 ) wheel or do I need to use a earlier wheel. Also Pelican has a beautiful wheel conversion on their web site. Is there any difficulty with that change over?

The 4-spoke 'lozenge'wheel will bolt right in, but I'd suggest looking for one from a late model 924 turbo. Drop fit replacement, smaller wheel. Makes quite a difference. Got one on my early 944. And my wife's got an early 944 lozenge wheel in her early 924. Her wheel is noticeable bigger than the 924 turbo one.

I am not familiar with the Pelican conversion but there was a post just a couple days ago about someone that put a later wheel on their earlier car. Glance back a few threads, you'll find who it was and ask them your questions. I'm sure they will be glad to help.

Here is the thread I started. There is a mod which involves trimming the black tab in the picture. I used a hack saw and then smoothed the edges with a file. The wheel came off real easy once the nut was undone. I think you torque the nut back to 44 ft/lb (check on clarks-garage.com)
