Damn Sunroof
Like most 944's the cables in my roof's tilting/ locking mechanism are seized and in need of replacement. For the winter, I have manually locked it so the panel does not lift at highway speeds. I was wondering if anyone has ever fabricated a manual lock for the roof panel rather than using the automatic system. I don't really care about not having the tilting feature but in the spring/ summer would like to be able to take the panel out.

Tim with 944 spec group out here in Sun Diego had some simple metal tie plate cut and drill. http://comeauracing.com/index.html These allow you to lock the sun roof with the 6 screws x 4 tie plates. Works pretty good with roof panels removed, but not sure if you still have the lines. I think they're about $20 for the set, so could get you by till you can find parts for manual cam lock system. I would also be interested in manual cam system if you find something.

Why would anyone want to go back to manual. Very cheap to repair if you want to do the moto torque and sensor set.

The automatic sunroof system is such a pain to keep working well sometimes. It is fragile and complex so often people revert to a manual roof setup which not only negates the possibility of further breakage, but it also saves weight. I personally would convert to manual if my roof ever broke. I'm always on the lookout for weight reduction excuses. But even if you're not crazy about weight reduction, since the roof breaks so often, it could actually be an improvement to daily driveability to convert to manual.

If your roof keeps breaking, it's because it isn't adjusted correctly. My 86 never broke in the twenty years I owned it. My 87 has had the gears replaced once.
