check engine light
I was looking at this 2000 with 57K. Car is located at shop where I take my 88 in for service. The problem is the check engine light came after driving. Took car back and the owner hook it up to see what code comes up and it states in so many words that it can't reconize the computer in the car. Any ideas

They aren't using a Porsche code reader.
Many after market readers do not speak "porsche"

Yes, it could be a cause of concern. It also might not be. There is no way of knowing without getting the codes it's throwing. They most likely are emissions codes, but could be others. Even if it IS an emissions code, something like camshaft position sensor erros (points to timing being slightly off), it may or may not be anything to worry about.
So, I took a lot of words to say, you gotta get the codes to know anything. |

Billy,
You can take the car to TPC (Levitas shop) and have it checked there, Candy. |

Another reaseon is that the ECU has been altered with hardware. (chipping). Most flash programming does not cause this, but a few years ago some tuners were installing components to the boards.
