996 Engine Oil Drains
Hi All,
I am from the 911 board and just got a call from a friend about changing the engine oil in his '98 996. He said that he removed a bolt at the rear of the engine with a 17mm wrench and a spring and a metal doodad came out along with 2 quarts of oil. Later he figured that the drain plug proper was the plug that required an 8mm allen and having removed that plug about 6 quarts came out. What is the first bolt that he removed????? He things it might be related to an oil pressure sender that he saw in the Pelican catalog.

This was most likely the oil pressure relieve valve or the oil pressure safety valve. Both have a piston and a spring behind a cap screw. Put it back in and you are good to go.........
