'04 996 vs. '05 997
I may replace my daily driver '99 996 due to some pesky unresolved minor maintenance issues (see my previous posts). I prefer a Tiptronic as my wife will occasionally drive the car and with my commute it works better for me.
My price range is $45-55K. This puts me in the '04 996 and '05 997 range. What are your thoughts? Any alternatives that are not Japanese? I would like to average 20-22 MPG on my 20 mile commute that is 50/50 city/highway

I'd go with the 997. You've already had a 996. Or even a CaymanS

I am now thinking about keeping the 996, selling the '83 911 and looking for a mid 90's Ferrari . With the downturn in the economy I might get a deal
(348 or 355 if someone is despearate) for the fun car. I really cannot afford $1000 oil changes and $7,000 belt service. I know I will end up driving 2000 miles and have $10,000 in service. Someone talk me out of it!

There was a 348 in the shop I take my 996 too, they were doing one of those $10,000 services on, the engine and rear end has to come out to do it, a long drawn out costly service. I would rather have a Porsche than an 348 or 355, because of that I will never own one. If I were in your shoes, I keep the 996 and the 911 SC and add a 930 Turbo.
