X51 Power package
Are the 996 (2204) cars with the X51 factory package still prone to IMS engine failure? Is it worth the extra $$$

Not sure about the 2204 cars But 1999-2008 all have the same basic IMS design in the M-type engines. Porsche has been modifying, seals, # of rows, and mounting methods to reduce the risk, but it is still there.
The new 2009 9A1 type engines have eliminated the IMS.

The IMS is the same on an x51 engine; it's the software, intake, heads, cams, and headers that are different - not the block.
