How can I make my 996 C4S more powerful?
I want to improve my 996 C4S a bit and was planning on putting on new headers and a new exhaust and air filter.
My qustion is what brands to stick on to? Does anyone have any experience in tuning a 996? Also planned on lowering the car with H&R springs or would the Gemballa springs be a better choice? Let me know what you´ve done with your 996.

K&N is a great manufacturer of intake products. Their filters alone are a performancee upgrade.
When lowering the car you are normally best off to change the shocks also since if you keep using the stock shocks you just took a couple inches of compression off them so you are closer to bottoming out. There are pre sert up kits of shocks and springs for lowering. All the exhaust options I have seen don't come close to what Akrapovic could so for the 996 but they are sticking to only the 997. |

You can spend about $5k on headers, cats, mufflers, and air filter and not get much in return, maybe 20rwhp. So don't expect much other than sound, but still fun to do and worthwhile if you have the money.
I would recommend Cargraphic exhaust components as they are TUV approved and they offer warranties on their cats unlike some other manufacturers. I have no love for Fabspeed. The air filter may be more trouble than it's worth based on some peoples experiences with aftermarket filters and MAF failures, but K&N and BMC are the largest name brands. Don't bother paying extra for the Gemballa or Techart name, stick with Eibach or H&R springs. They produce the springs for the other companies anyway. Yes you would want to replace shocks as well. BUT at that point you may as well get the Bilstein Pss9 kit. Get a lightweight flywheel next time you replace the clutch for the best acceleration performance mod. |

The 02 and later 996's do not see much benefit from exhaust tuning. You can spend a lot of money for marginal power gains if at all. The biggest improvement you can find is a better sound, which we all know makes your car feel faster!

Many out here enjoy driving their cars.. becoming a better driver will make it seem like you have more hp.. since you will know how to use what you have better.

Superchargers are I think are the most effective bang for buck however I'd be curious about a low pressure turbo.
