Question Help Door Locks ASAP

Hello,
I'm having some problems with my door locks on a 2001 Porsche 996. For some reason when I use the keyless entry remote it locks only the driver side. I locked the car manually and only the drivers side locks not passenger side what's going on here? Any suggestions? I tried to arm the alarm, I am not hearing anything just flashing emergency lights. Could it be a fuse? Need some expert advice on what to do. Also what book is really good for the 996 under a $100?

It sounds like the door lock solenoid. When you arm the alarm is just flashes the lights, there is no chirp or sound. The only time it does is if you left a door or trunk open.

If you don't have an owner's manual, get one. These cars are too complicated to try to figure out how things like the locks work without one. Find one on eBay.

The 996 Essential Companion is a good book. Not a shop manual; mostly model history and technical info for geeks, with some DIY info: Amazon.com: Porsche 996 The Essential Companion: Supreme Porsche (9781845840969): Adrian Streather: Books

Our host, Wayne Dempsey, is soon coming out with a 101 Projects book for the 996. That will be the definitive DIY book, if the 101 Projects book for the 911 is any indication. Price should be well under a benjamin.

Rrockhound I do have the 2001 996 owners manual and all the navigation books with service manual. I was trying to find a DIY book that doesn't cost and arm a leg I think The Essential Companion is the perfect book untill Wayne's 101 Projects book comes out.

We have original 996 workshop manuals for a reasonable price (I think $395?). There are something like 11 books with a total weight of about 70 lbs for the whole set.

Yup, my book will cover this and many other projects. I'll have some info on the web in the very near future too.

This particular problem is most likely a failed lock mechanism. Not too difficult to replace, but I think the part is a few hundred dollars.

Do the interior lights and power windows work?
I had the same problem. In addition, it would keep blowing the fuse for the int. lights, power windows, and alarm. I narrowed it down to the psgr. side door lock, opener.
My dealer says they are starting to see this problem on 996's.

Yes the interior lights and power windows work both sides of them. Hmm.. makes sense what year was your 996? Mine is a 2001, obtw I have all the manuals that came with the car including Navagation PCCM and maintence books.

How do I take apart the psgr. side door lock? Did you do the work yourself? How much for the part? I am thinking of just taking it to a specialty indy shop to fix it.

Mine is a 2005.
I have the door panel off. It does not look like it is hard to get the part off. I think it is a little over$100, but
it does not seem like we have the same problem?
Wayne, what is the tech article about?

Ok, you might be having a different problem than me sounds like yours could be a wiring issue or a fuse maybe that blew on the 2005 model. Wayne, Can you please specify what this article is about? Thanks

Airrik
